The series takes a little detour at this point, it breaks from the initial storyline and takes you into Guts' past. You learn quite a bit about his origins and what makes this mercenary tick! Yea I said Mercenary and that's all the spoilers you'll get from me! Mercenary can only mean one thing! MORE BLOOD!!!! YEAH! Actually in this episode we begin to meet some of the other characters who will build the storyline of betray and lost love and MORE VIOLENCE! Actually I'm not so sure about the lost love part but maybe - we're seeing the first and apparently ONLY female character which in my opinion is a good thing! More room for BLOOD! Still a must watch!!!moreless

- Gambino and his band of mercenaries found Guts as a baby lying under his dead mother, who was hanged from a large tree with many other people. Siss (Gambino's lover) picked Guts up and adopted him as her their son. Gambino was never happy with this. Siss soon became very ill and died. Gambino blamed Guts for this and never forgot it. Guts was trained by Gambino to be a mercenary. Gambino was one day badly injured in a battle; he was never able to fight again. As his rage built up, he one day went into Guts' tent while he was sleeping and attempted to murder him. Guts awoke just in time and killed Gambino in self-defence. Ever since, Guts has wondered from battle to battle with his huge sword earning money as a lone mercenary.
