This episode is great.
After Gatts left the Hawks he goes off to live in the mountains. He then finds out that the Hawks are near by and are in danger. He goes off to save them. When he arrives he finds what is left of the Hawks.
Gatts saves the Hawks. He finds that Griffith is no longer with them. It is revealed to him that Griffith was imprisoned after he had left, after that the Hawks had become but a shadow of what they once were. Gatts can't help but feel a little guilty. Caska is angery at him and the Hawks are glad to have him back.
This episode really does a good job by showing how Gatts actions really do effect the group. By showing how he is a vital part of the team and that as soon as he left the team, it crumbled apart. It does a great job in showing the connection between the characters and showing their mixed emotions for eachother. The expression on Griffith's face when Gatts leaves, the actions he takes to surpress the pain of his departure, Caska's anger yet love for Gatts.
This is a foreshadowing of what's to come. This is the beginning of the end of the Hawks. You can see the roots of Griffith's pain growing. After watching later episodes you can see how this is a pivotal episode. This is when Gatts decides to save Griffith. This is when Gatts and Caska get romantically involved. This is when you can see Griffiths pain
