Somewhere there are writers sitting around, cashing their paychecks, then 15 seconds before shooting time, they scribble an idea onto the flap of a chinese takeout box and pass it to the show's star. In this case, the incomparable Bette Midler.

Midler then takes the idea and tries it on. Whether she likes it's fit or not, she has no choice but to wear it. She then delves deep inside to bring out everything she can muster to stay afloat and dodge tomatoes from the audience at the same time.

No matter how big Bette's bad of tricks may be (and it's gotta be almost an bottomless one like Mary Poppin's carpet bag) she can't keep the rats from abandoning this sinking ship.moreless
