The execs lording over the tv series "Bette" were very disappointed that Midler wasn't getting big name movie stars to appear on her program.
With the inept writing, we fans never expected it to happen. You can make a purse from a sow's ear, but you can't teach it to oink.
Jon Lovitz is NOT by any means star power. The SNL reject has made a career of being almost added post production (he's usually part of the blue screen that special effects are done on that we can't see).
I do have to give him a thumbs up here however. He's basically playing the same character he's done forever, but with Bette Midler as a cohort, it actually seems fresh.
