Merle (Craig Hundley) is a young Warlock who is staying with Samantha and Darrin for a brief time. Darrin has no problems with this arrangement providing that Merle agrees that he will not perform any witchcraft while he is a guest in their house. Merle reluctantly agrees.

Meanwhile, Larry (David White) has purchased an expensive necklace for his wife, Louise, (Irene Vernon) as a gift but asks Darrin to keep it for him until he is ready to give it to her. Unfortunately for both Larry and Darrin, their plans reach the ears of a would-be thief who follows Darrin home and attempts to break in that night to steal the valuable piece. When the burglar is caught looking for the necklace, he ties Darrin and young Merle up together and intends to make off with his prize. Using the type of persuasion which makes him a top executive, Darrin convinces the thief to take a toy fire engine instead, whereupon he instructs Merle to let loose with the magic and the poor thief is thoroughly zapped and easily caught.

Not a great episode, but not completely awful either. It is a little aggravating that Darrin is fine with people using magic when it suits his purposes, but completely against it when it doesn't. Watch it though as there as some good laughs to be had as the burglar gets more than he bargained for.moreless

    • (someone knocks at the door) Samantha: Ahm … that's Gladys Kravitz. Merle: Hey, can you see through walls? I can't seem to get the hang of it. Samantha: (laughs) No magic involved, Merle. I just know from the knock and the timing. (opens the door, Gladys is there, just as she said) Oh, hi, Mrs. Kravitz. What a surprise.

    • Mrs. Brocken: He's got a lot of studying to do. Samantha: Oh, what are you working on now, Merle? Merle: Elementary spells and incantations. Mrs. Brocken: Now, you're not to help him, Samantha. Samantha: Don't you worry, I won't.

    • (Glady and Abner observe the Stephens house) Gladys: How about that? Kind of funny, people like that going into the Stephens house. Abner: They look normal to me. Gladys: That's what's funny about it.
