Seven year old Tommy, who lives in an orphanage, is happy to spend Christmas with Gladys and Abner Kravitz. Six year old Michael, also an orphan, derides Tommy's belief in Santa Claus. When Samantha and Darrin bring him home for the holidays, their efforts to get Michael to share in the festivities of the season fail. After Michael admits that he would believe in Santa Claus if he really existed, Samantha takes Michael and Darrin on her broom-stick to the North Pole, where Michael meets Santa Claus. Later, back at home, Darrin and Michael awake. Although both feel they have dreamed the trip, Michael now believes in Santa Claus. Gladys overhears Michael tell Tommy he has met Santa Claus. When she tries to pin Tommy down, he denies that Michael has ever mentioned it. Mrs. Grange, the director of the orphanage, comes to the Stephens home with George and Sarah Johnson. At the Kravitz home, both Gladys and Abner, who are about to return Tommy to the orphanage, express their wish to have someone like Tommy permanently. When Michael leaves with Mr. and Mrs. Johnson, Samantha and Darrin know Michael has found two loving parents.moreless

Christmas is fast approaching and both Darrin and Samantha, along with their neighbors, Gladys and Abner Kravitz (Alice Pearce and George Tobias) decide to take a boy each from the orphanage to give them a nice Christmas. Young Tommy (Kevin Tate) is eager to go home with Gladys and Abner and is eagerly awaiting the arrival of Santa, but Michael (Billy Mumy), described as a 'problem child' by the director of the orphanage, although happy to spend the holiday at the Stephens' house, makes it quite clear that he knows that Santa is a fake, and is just someone's father stuffed with pillows. When Darrin, dressed as Santa, fails to convince the sad young boy, Samantha realises that she needs to do something drastic in order to give Michael back the true spirit of Christmas.

That night, while the household sleeps, Samantha (dressed for the first time in the series in traditional witch garb of black dress and matching pointed hat) spirits herself, Darrin and young Michael off on her broomstick to meet the real Santa Claus at his North Pole residence. Young Michael is thrilled and amazed when he meets elves and the great man himself. (Darrin is suitably impressed as well) When they return home, Michael and Darrin awaken and believe they had a dream while Michael goes across the street and tells young Tommy about riding on a broomstick and visiting the North Pole. Tommy swears not to tell and Gladys, finally believing she has something on Samantha, can't get a word out of him, much to her disgust. Later that day, a kind couple who have been wanting to adopt Michael for some time arrive at the Stephens' house and Darrin and Samantha happily watch him leave to start a new, happy life.moreless
