Episode Summary

EDIT
Darrin and Samantha receive a Christmas card from Michael, the former orphan who stayed with them last year during the holidays. This leads them to recall the events in an extended flashback. At the orphanage, Michael derides Tommy, another orphan, for his belief in Santa Claus. When Samantha and Darrin bring Michael home for Christmas, their efforts to get him to share in the festivities of the season fail. After Michael admits that he would believe in Santa Claus if he really existed, Samantha takes Michael and Darrin on her broom-stick to the North Pole, where Michael meets Santa Claus. Later, back at home, Darrin and Michael awake. Although both feel they have dreamed the trip, Michael now believes in Santa Claus. At the Kravitzes', where Tommy is staying, Gladys overhears Michael tell Tommy he has met Santa Claus. When she tries to pin Tommy down, he denies that Michael has ever mentioned it. Mrs. Grange, the director of the orphanage, comes to the Stephens home with George and Sarah Johnson. When Michael leaves with Mr. and Mrs. Johnson, Samantha and Darrin know Michael has found two loving parents.moreless

    8.0
A Christmas card from young Michael, (Billy Mumy) who, as an orphan, spent the previous Christmas with Samantha and Darrin, but who is now happily living with his new adoptive parents, cause the Stephens' to flash back to the previous year when Michael, who then didn't believe in Santa Claus, was magically taken on Samantha's broom, along with Darrin, to visit Santa Claus and his elves at their North Pole residence and workshop. Needless to say, after meeting the man himself and seeing all the toys being made, Michael becomes a firm believer, even though he thinks the whole things was a dream.

A happy, feel-good episode which provided excellent ratings when it was repeated during the second season and a heartwarming ending just to round it off.moreless

  • NOTES (1)

    • Borrowing from his experience with the I Love Lucy pregnancy shows, William Asher padded the second season of Bewitched with this episode. Only filming a new opening tag of pregnant Samantha in order to lead to a flashback of last year's Christmas, the episode is nearly a total repeat. This allowed Elizabeth Montgomery additional time off after the birth of her and Asher's second child.
