While obviously more fun-loving and mischevious than Samantha, Serena is portrayed as being far more grounded in this episode than she is in later appearances. Both her personality and look will become much more flamboyant in subsequent episodes.
Serena: I'd like to leave a little plaything for the baby. I thought a centaur might be nice.
Endora: Luckily she [Tabitha] takes after Samantha Darrin: She does look like Sam. But I think there's a little bit of me there too. Endora: Yes, but the wrinkles will disappear soon.
Nurse: How did you manage to get in here? I didn't think Houdini could do it. Endora: Houdini had a lot to learn. Nurse: Goodbye Grandma (she waves, Samantha gets afraid) Endora: Why do I have to leave? Nurse: (refers to Sam) Because we are about to take our nap. Endora: Our nap? Are you going to climb into the bed too? Nurse: I was using the royal "we". Endora: Are you a member of royalty?
Samantha: We haven't decided on a name yet. Endora: I don't care what you call her. Samantha: You don't? Endora: No, whatever you call her, I shall call her "Tabatha."
Darrin: Endora, sometimes you can be almost human. Endora: This is no time to be insulting.
Endora: Samantha just presented me with the most beautiful granddaughter. Darrin: (Nervous, pleased) You mean … I'm … I'm the father of a girl? Endora: That too. Darrin: Endora, I don't know what to do first, to hug you or offer you a cigar. Endora: There's no other choice?
(Samantha and Darrin are rushing to leave for the hospital) Darrin: I'll call them [my parents] later. Samantha: How about Derek? Darrin: I'll call him too. ... Do we know a Derek? Samantha: Not yet. I thought it might be a nice name if it's a boy. Darrin: If you don't hurry, we may end up calling the baby "Freeway", because that's where it's going to be born.
Samantha and Darrin's daughter is credited as Tabatha in this episode. This would be the spelling of her name until season five, when it was changed to Tabitha. Elizabeth Montgomery, who chose the name, had always intended the latter way of spelling the character's name.
Dialogue in this episode reveal that Samantha and Serena haven't seen each other since their childhood.
Elizabeth Montgomery returned from her three-month break to resume production on Bewitched on December 10, 1965, starting with this episode. Tabitha is born in this episode, and another character is born here: Serena, Samantha's look-alike cousin.
Harry Houdini (aka Erich Weiss, 1874-1926), mentioned by the nurse and Endora, was a popular master magician and particular known for his escapes and provoke-cheats.
