Of course, they also have new neighbors, nosy Gladys Kravitz and her do-nothing husband Abner Kravitz. When the newly-married Darrin and Samantha Stephens (Dick York and Elizabeth Montgomery) decide to purchase a new home of their own rather than rent, Darrin asks Sam to meet him to look at a property that he thinks is suitable. Samantha decides to go early and takes Endora (Agnes Moorehead) along with her.

From the outside, we see that the house has no lawns or gardens and obviously, no inside furniture either. Endora amuses herself by adding grass, flowers, trees and shrubs to the outside of the property so that she and Samantha can get a look at what it would look like when it was properly established. Little do they know that they are being closely watched by the world's nosiest neighbor, Gladys Kravitz, (Alice Pearce) who lives with her incredibly dull and lazy husband, Abner, (George Tobias) and has little to occupy herself except peering out of her living room curtains and watching what the neighbours are doing.

Both Alice and her husband are convinced that she is seeing things when the grass and flowers etc. appear out of nowhere in front of the house opposite. Meanwhile, Samantha and Endora go inside and start adding furniture and drapes to the empty rooms and have a wonderful time changing color schemes and furniture styles. Finally, Darrin arrives to see the house at about the same time that Mrs. Kravitz decides that she must go and investigate the strange goings on. Endora quickly leaves (as does all the furniture) and Darrin answers the door to Mrs. Kravitz thinking she must be his mother-in-law whom he is yet to meet.

A very funny episode with lots of highjinks and humor as we see the Kravitz's for the first time and realise what a major part of Darrin and Samantha's lives they will be when the couple move into Morning Glory Circle.moreless

  • QUOTES (9)

    ADD QUOTES
    • (Darrin feels that someone is around) Samantha: (pretends innocence) Who could be here? Darrin: Nobody that I know, but I don't know about people you know. People I know, you can see, but I'm not so sure about people you know.

    • Gladys: (looking out the window with Abner) There he is, Abner! That's the one who kissed me. Abner: It don't make any sense, Gladys. He's got her. Why would he want to kiss you?

    • Abner: (working on a crossword puzzle) What's a five-letter word for the ultimate happiness, peace and tranquility? (thinks about it, then writes and says) Death.

    • Samantha: Let's go upstairs and look at the bedrooms. Endora: Why go up there? Why don't we just send for them?

    • Gladys: (looking out the window) Abner, the house across the street has got a lawn and, Abner, there are trees and flowers. Abner: What do you want from me?

    • Gladys: (looking out the window) There are two of them, Abner. Both women, one older. Maybe a sister, maybe a mother. Come take a look, Abner. Abner: Leave me alone. I'm retired.

    • Darrin: I love your hair. Always feels so soft, smells so good. (kisses her hair and some gets in his mouth) Tastes good too. What is that? Samantha: Strawberry frosting. It was going to be a surprise. Darrin: It is a surprise. I always thought you had plain, ordinary hair. Samantha: Do you like it? Darrin: I love your hair. Samantha: I mean the frosting. I baked you a cake.

    • Samantha: Darrin is a marvelous human being. Endora: Oh, that's a terrible thing to say about anyone.

    • Endora: What a ridiculous waste of time and energy! Samantha: (icing a cake) I prefer to think of it as doing something that will please my husband. Endora: Well, you needn't develop biceps doing it.
