Endora tries to make Samantha seem older than she actually is by putting her face on an old painting dating back to 1690. Darrin notices this and wonders if he's growing old while she remains young. Samantha finds out that her mother is to blame for all this mess, and Endora tells her that she can age along with Darrin.moreless
  • Always on the lookout for ways to cause trouble in Darrin and Samantha's marriage, Endora uses a little magic of her own on a painting, dated 1690, which she alters to resemble her daughter.moreless

Endora always like to have fun, particularly at Darrin's expense and she siezes the perfect opportunity to send him into a blind panic when she comes across an old painting in an antique shop and artfully changes it to appear as though it is a portrait of Samantha, dated 1690. Darrin is positively alarmed when he comes across it and tries to hide it from Sam but when she finds it in a closet, she quickly puts two and two together and realises what Endora is up to.

When Darrin finds out the truth about the painting, Samantha admits that she is indeed much older than Darrin suspects (but we never hear exactly HOW old) and that she will age much more slowly than he will, as all magical people do. Darrin is very worried that he will be an old man while Sam is still as young as vital as when they first met. Darrin's fears are soothed somewhat when they sit down and discuss the matter and they both realise that it is love and not age that matters.moreless
