Yeah, Dick York was definately better, and for those who were wondering he had chronic back pain from an injury I beleive he recieved doing some other movie or show, it got so bad he couldn't stay on the tv show anymore, in fact there are a few episodes where Darrin is missing (supposedly gone on business) and these are times when his back was in really bad shape.

I have to go with Dick York.  Out of him and Dick Sargent he was better.  Sargent is a good actor I liked him as Sheriff Grady Byrd on the Dukes of Hazzard, but for Darrin York was the better of the two.

York. He had more romantic chemistry with Liz. Sargent seemed always and constantly angry.

Dick York was the only dude that played Durwood best! Sargent was no slouch but only York had those bizarre expressions and oh that voice! Hands down Dick York !!

even though sargeant was offered the part first, york played the better darrin.  york's darrin was quicker to snap, but it made him more real.  the show would not have been as effective if darrin was so easygoing from the beginning.

By far,Dick York.I think he was a better fit for the character, and he had better chemistry with Elizabeth Montgomery. But,to be fair to Dick Sargent, the show was already in decline by the time he joined the cast, and I dont think it was so much him as it was Montgomery, because it was clear her heart wasnt really in it anymore.

Dick York was the only Darrin, in my opinion. Dick Sargent couldn't come close when he took over.

I could not agree with you more. Dick York IS Darrin Stephens. Although, I have only seen 7 or 8 episodes that had Dick Sargent in them, I was not impressed with his portrayal of the character Darrin Stephens. Something always seemed to be missing with Sargent.

In all honesty, I think they should have cancelled "Bewitched" at the end of Dick York's last season as Darrin Stephens because anyone who watched the series regularly knew the show was starting to decline by that time anyway. I have seen most episodes from the first 5 seasons of "Bewitched" through re-runs over the years and most of my favourite episodes are from the first 2 seasons, before they had Tabitha, but that might just be because I have no place for children on TVseries. After Dick York left the series was never the same again!

Dick York is by far my favourite Darrin. I don't think the show would have ran so long, or stayed so popular, had Dick Sargent played the role from episode 1.

He was having Back issues notice on the icon above this how he crinches in his upper back as he takes the picture. I'm surprised he made it that long with the back problem on the show.

Anyway, I always thought York put personality into his character Darren, Sargent was alright, but just didn't habve that charm that York had.

Also should have mention, they said that his back problems were the reason he QUIT the show on E's 101 True Hollywood Stories.
