  • features some great Larry and Darrin moments

    9.0
The episode starts with the typical interaction occurring at breakfast time as Darren is undoubtedly about late for work. Instead of being happy to see his mother in law, Darren asks why can't you call before you come over, which results in Endora casting a spell to make Darren into the courteous, gallant, and chivalrous person that Samantha swears him to be.

Fans like me of Bewitched are obsessed with Larry Tate's relationship with Darren. You'll love Instant Courtesy If you enjoy Larry Tate's schtick of alternatatively thinking Darren is the best thing since sliced bread and almost intantly after, firing him, in his pursuit of wealthy clients and large accounting dollars.

Larry is the perfect suck up to Mrs. Sebastian's makeup empire, unfortunately, she doesn't really call the shots. Instead, they have to work on her trusted advisor, and that's where things go wrong. Because Darrin cannot help himself from opening up every woman's store, helping them take off their coat, changing their typewriter ribbon, because Endora has cast a spell upon him making him the most courteous and gallant person in the entire world. Darren's chivalry happens much to the chagrin of Larry, who would like Darren to act more masculine and stand up for himself to lure Mrs. Sebastian's trusted advisor, played by General Clayton from MASH fame.

Fans of Larry's flashy wealth, clothes, and sixties style will love shots taken of Darren's home with Louise, and let Larry's luxury suits, clothes, down right to his cufflinks. Although flimsy in magic, this episode does pack a lot of cute spells where various characters who are charmed by spellcraft change their minds suddenly and don't understand why, due to Sam's and Endora's spell casting.

If you're a huge Darren and Larry Tate then, you absolutely need to see instant courtesy in a great ensemble episode.moreless
  • Endora is one the loose again and, as usual, Darrin is her target.

    6.5
It would be impossible to count how many disagreements Darrin and Endora can manage in a week, but on this occasion, she casts a spell to turn her much-disliked son-in-law into the ideal gentleman. Darrin sweet, gallant and courteous to the point of nausea to everyone he meets. Initially, it looks like this version of Darrin has landed an important account for McMann and Tate but things go wrong when a client who initially signs with the firm decides that there is something strange going on and that she will take her business elsewhere. Naturally, Endora is delighted with this turn of events but Samantha doesn't want to cause even more trouble for Darrin so she steps in to help.

At least Endora is always consistent!moreless

  • TRIVIA (1)

    • When Samantha gets an "air" mail from Endora, in the form of an arrow striking her wall, the message reads: "Tell your chivalrous husband that his Mother-in-law is regrettably unavailable." After she reads this, and makes a remark, the note changes to: "Guess who made me that way." The camera then goes into a long shot showing Samantha holding the note. The note is partially transparent and you can clearly tell the note has not changed. It is still on the first message.
