It's just an ordinary day in the Stephen's household when young Marshall Burns (Jimmy Mathers) turns up. Marshall lives in the area with his widowed mother (June Lockhart) and wants to do all the things that normal boys his age do, the trouble is, his mother isn't all that keen on that idea and tries to protect him from everything in life, including ordinary food!
Samantha makes it her mission to help the boy out and gets some assistance from a reluctant Darrin who believes that the Marshall's mother should have the say on what he does and does not do. The problems begin when Marshall desperately wants to try out for the local baseball league but his mother is firmly against it, thinking the sport far too dangerous. Naturally, Samantha has no intention of letting it go at that and takes Marshall to the team tryouts herself, where she meets Mrs. Karavits (Alice Pearce) whose nephew is also on the team.
With a bit of help from Samantha's famous 'nose wiggle', Marshall makes the team and is delighted, until his mother shows up and tries to take him away. Some gentle persuasion and offers of personal assistance from the team coach means that things begin to look up for Marshall after all.
