  • As Samantha's pregnancy gets further along, both she and Darrin decide that it would be a good idea to hire a maid to help Sam with the housework but things don't work out quite as planned.

As the time for the birth of their baby draws nearer, Darrin is worried that Samantha is over taxing herself and wants to hire a maid to help her out around the house. At first, Samantha is reluctant, but Darrin finally gets her to agree to conduct interviews and so, she does. The first applicant has a list of things that she WON'T do which is fair greater than any chores she will! However, when sweet, shy and widowed Naomi (Alice Ghostley) appears on the doorstep and admits that she has had four jobs in as many months, that she isn't a very competent housekeeper and that she breaks a lot of things, Samantha admires her honesty and hires her on the spot, particularly after she learns that Naomi has a young son whom she is putting through medical school and that she desperately needs the money to pay his tuition.

It doesn't take long to figure out that while Naomi is a delightful lady who is very honest and hard-working, she is simply hopeless as a cook. When guests come for dinner and Naomi is totally ruining the meal, Samantha has to do quite a bit of nose twitching to make it scrumptious. Naomi, of course, thinks she has achieved this herself.

Soon after, Louise Tate (Irene Vernon) calls and asks if Naomi can cook for an important dinner party as her own houskeeper is unable to do so. Naomi eagerly agrees as she needs the extra money. All does not appear to be well when Louise finds her kitchen looking like a bomb has hit it and a bit mess of glump on the stove, but Samantha, hiding outside the window, soon makes everything ok again with a wiggle of her nose and Naomi is success.

Just a short time after this, whilst Darrin and Samantha are trying to cook an appalling breakfast prepared by their housekeeper, they realise, reluctantly that they must fire her but she surprises them by announcing that she is resigning because she knows how hopeless she is at this kind of work. With that, she tallys up her weekly 'breakages' at the speed of light and Darrin and Samantha realise that she has found her true calling - as an accountant at McMann and Tate!

A real fun, entertaining episode with Alice Ghostley giving a superb performance as the bumbling Naomi. Don't miss this one or you'll regret it!

This episode is absolutely brilliant. I feel like I'm really caught up in the tension as Samantha keeps a butterfingered housemaid around and magically does all the work for her. Then the obvious problems begin to arise.
