Aunt Clara remembers the spell to bring Ben Franklin back when nosy Gladys Kravitz tries to tell reporters all about the Stephenses' happenings. Meanwhile, it seems that Franklin will be punished to the full extent of the law when Larry tells about how great a publicity stunt it is in front of the District Attorney! With a little bit of magic, Samantha gets the people to root for Ben Franklin. In court, Samantha tells everyone that Ben Franklin has done no harm since he appeared and that he cannot be accused for stealing his own property. When Benjamin Franklin goes on trial for stealing the fire engine, Samantha decides that she will act as his defense counsel. Naturally, Gladys Kravitz has to stick her nose in and Larry is thrilled with the 'publicity stunt' which he makes a comment about in front of the presiding judge!

Using some magic of her own, Samantha gets some protestors outside to begin chanting to free Mr. Franklin and when he makes a very eloquent speech on his own behalf in the courtroom, the judge is impressed and agrees with Samantha that because the man really believes that he is Benjamin Franklin, he can't be prosecuted for stealing his own property.

Finally, he is sent back to where he belongs and all is well ... Until next time. Very entertaining episode.moreless

    • Since when were there mountains in New York City? Because of the Screen Gems studio's location in Southern California, outdoor city scenes on the show often revealed mountains in the background.

    • Darrin: Mr. Franklin, you said yourself it was time to go back. Benjamin Franklin: And so I shall, sir, after this dear lady (Aunt Clara) and I have a night, as you put it, on the town. Darrin: But didn't you once say, "Early to bed, early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise"? Benjamin Franklin: Yes, I did. But that was before the electric light.

    • Benjamin Franklin: Now, the district attorney, I fear, has set himself a very difficult task. First, he must prove that I stole a fire engine. Now, what motive could a man have for stealing a fire engine unless, of course, he needed one to put out a fire? And, second, the district attorney must prove that I am not Benjamin Franklin but, in fact, an impostor. If he succeeds, I shall have to conclude that not only have I been mistaken as to my identity all these years, but that my honored father and mother were some what confused at my birth.

    • Benjamin Franklin: Optimists, Madam, believe that all will turn out for the best. They are, therefore, constantly disappointed. I on the other hand, prepare myself for the worst. Should it not occur, I am delightfully surprised.

    • Samantha: Maybe Darrin's right [about Franklin defending himself at trial]. After all, Mr. Franklin, you are innocent. Benjamin Franklin: Mrs. Stephens, it's the innocent who need an attorney. The guilty can lie for themselves.
