Darrin's parents, Phyllis and Frank, (Mabel Albertson and Robert F. Simon) send a letter to their new granddaughter, Tabatha, telling her that they will be visiting very soon. The arrival of this letter prompts a flashback to when Mr. and Mrs. Stephens first visited and met their son's new wife.
Frank Stephens is a warm and jovial man, but his wife, Phyllis, is not quite as pleasant to begin with as she is clearly jealous of Samantha and hopes to find her lacking as a housekeeper and a cook. Unfortunately, even though Samantha insists that she is a terrible cook, Aunt Clara, (Marion Lorne) for once getting her spells right, conjurs up a superb meal which makes Mrs. Stephens feel even more redundant in Darrin's life. Things improve markedly, however, when Aunt Clara confesses that SHE cooked the meal and that Samantha really isn't yet capable of such exotic food. Finally, the two women 'make up' and it's obvious that they will be good friends in the future.
