Julie Chen opens with the statement that the new season of Big Brother is "going back to school" and HouseGuests will play together as part of a familiar high school clique. We get a view of the new Big Brother house as the announcer explains the different cliques.
After the opening, each of the 12 HouseGuests was introduced:
Jeff - advertising salesman
Ronnie - 30, video game expert
Jordan - waitress
Natalie - 18, tae kwon do bronze medalist in junior olympics
Kevin - 29, graphic designer
Chima - freelance journalist
Braeden - surfer
Michele - 27, neuroscientist
Laura - 21, bikini model
Russell - 24, commerical real estate broker/mixed martial artists fighter
Lydia - 24, special effects make-up artist
Casey - 40, teacher/DJ
Julie brings each of the new HouseGuests into the studio and welcomes them to take a look around and warns them that the person in front of them may be there new best friend and the person behind you just may stab you in the back.
The first four to enter the house were Ronnie, Laura, Russell and Kevin. The second group to enter the house was Chima, Braeden, Natalie and Casey. The third and final group to enter the house was Jordan, Jeff, Michele and Lydia. After self introductions and some celebratory champagne and the commercial break, Julie informs the audience that the HouseGuests will be split into four cliques - athletes, popular crowd, brains, off-beats.
With the ominous, "cliques rule the school," Julie says that the HouseGuests will be playing together in cliques and that it is still necessary to be part of the "in crowd." Discussion ensued amongst the HouseGuests about who will be part of which group. After the commercial break, Julie instructed the HouseGuests to head to the backyard where they would find out where they fit in. The break down is as follows:
Athletes - Jeff, Russell, Natalie
Off-Beat - Casey, Lydia, Kevin
Popular - Jordan, Braeden, Laura
Brains - Michele, Chima, Ronnie
Then, the first Head of Household competition, "The Wegie," began. The person holding onto their toilet seat the longest would have a "distinct advantage," but would not become the first Head of Household. Instead, one of four mysterious people (Michael "Cowboy" - BB5, Jessica - BB8, Brian - BB10, Jessie - BB10) would become the most powerful person in the house. Whichever person representing one of the cliques wins "The Wegie" would have last HouseGuest and another teammate join their clique. That clique would then be safe for the first week.
In the end, Russell and Natalie, of the Athletes won the first HoH competition for their clique and Jessie joined the game as the 13th and final HouseGuest.
