Big Love

A really solid premiere of Big Love which even left us with quite a cliffhanger, and this episode set some things in motion for the rest of the season. Even though things are still left unaddressed like Nikki's gambling problem or Rhonda Volmer's manipulation, this was still a great premiere, and this show yet again proves to be the most addicting show on television.



Roman Grant is in prison. Nikki working in the law firm trying to take him down. A plot from early season 1 is brought up again, and it just shows that there is no such thing as a filler episode with Alby being gay Someone is out to kill him, and he tries to find out who it is. I really didn't think Ana would play a part this season but she definitely did with this premiere.



Her potentially being the fourth wife, Barb accepting this because of her possibly cancer returning. Bill & Ana having pre-marital sex. We all know what the best part of this episode was though. That was the explosive scene at the block party, which was just a great follow up to the finale, with everyone possibly knowing about Bill's family.



Great premiere, a lot of arcs set up here, and I can't wait to see how they play out.

This is my first time watching HBO's number one polygamy show Big Love, but it is safe to say I will be sticking around.



Big Love has that gritty, old-fashioned feel that made Mad Men a critical success, but not only does it feature faster-moving storylines and more mystique and drama than the AMC series, but the acting is just as good as well. All three wives are portrayed and cast perfectly as Ginnifer Goodwin works as the adorable, but yet slightly nieve Margy, Jeanne Tripplehorn as the middle ground more down to earth personality and Chloe Sevigny as perhaps the most bitter of the three. Veteran actor Bill Paxton plays his part well really translating the struggles of his life through the screen.



Where I think the show succeeds the most, however, is that it does not simply use the Mormon religion as a backdrop, like That 70's Show did with their decade during the later seasons; the storylines here really revolve around the grind of that religion.

I liked the episode. The introduction of what I think is going to be bill's new wife. The new business venture progressing more. All the narborhood drama finally coming to a head. I was hoping for a little more for the first episode back than I got, but it was still over all good. The whole episode seemed to being setting the stage for what it going to come. I thought that it was funny that they used real news footage for when the plig were getting removed from the compound a while ago. I can't wait to see what happens with the new wife.

The episode title refers to a block party where the family is spurned. But this is how polygamists are treated in society anyway.



My summary of block-heads refers to the whole lot of them. Albee has a skeleton in the closet (pun intended) revealed. Bill does the nasty with Ana, going against every principle he believes. Margine is naive and thinks everything is wonderful and how about the Indians with the casino. Why do I get the feeling that that endeavor will backfire.



That being said it was a well rounded return for this soap-opera. It's like Dallas of the Mormon community with treachery and power plays. And of course their is a love triangle which may become a quadrangle. Not a bad performance among them and their is enough suspsense that we must tune in next week. Big Love? Big fun...

Where to begin? The season opener of Big Love was great. It seems like we are back to the original recipe that made this show so exciting and different when it first premiered. I love the theme that HBO is using about the web of secrets. It sure seems like everyone has a skeleton or five in their closet and we are going to get to find them out over the course of this season. The Alby restroom scene was probably our first big reveal, but most of us suspected he was a closeted homosexual since season one. The big shocker was WHO put the hit on him, even though it wasn't confirmed, we can be pretty sure it was Adaleen. It also looks like Nikki is already leading a double life from the get-go. The family has no idea what she is up to and when they find out, I am sure it will cause some major ripples. Barb's cancer may have returned, which has further pushed her into the principle and spurred her to formally invite Ana to date the family. Ana, for the most part, seems to be less than enthused about dating the Henricksons. Marg is pushing her to do it, and even went so far as to bring her a Book of Mormon. I am eager to see how this unfolds. I also could not believe Bill broke his own "rule" and slept with her. When the wives find this out, I am expecting some fallout. We didnt get to delve into Ben or Sarahs lives much this time. But we do know Sarah is desperate to get out of Utah and away from her family. Let me not forget Teeny. I cannot believe she is selling porn mags to the neighborhood kids!!! What happened to her? Now, lets visit the compound, shall we? Lois sure was interested in that bird after Wanda told her how much he is worth. I daresay that if she lays a hand on that bird, Wanda will make short work of her. Joey is still with Kathy, who we find out has a twin sister who is now with Frank. That kind of came out of nowhere, but I feel sorry for her being stuck with Frank. Frank threw out his son because he is "of age" and he is afraid of the competition. Same story as when he threw Bill out. Frank Jr may become a permanant fixture at the Henricksons. I am sure a left a couple of things out about this episode, but I am very excited about this season. Cant wait to see what happens next!
