Just when I think this show can't get any better, it does. Wow, I was absolutely blown away by this episode. This is Big Love's best episode to date, and we got so much intense and buzz worthy scenes here, it concluded most of the on going season arcs. All secrets in the family are revealed in this episode, even secrets kept since the first season. We've got Nikki on birth control, Ben's irrevocable love for Margene, Sarah's pregnancy, and finally Bill taking Viagra. We've also got some great humorous scenes. The whole family on a road trip? That's recipe for a hilarious episode of Big Love. From Margene being a "pill" for Bill, to the family leaving Bill behind on accident. This was also a very emotional episode, that really showed the danger this family is in. The possibility of Ben & Margene hasn't been brought up since early season 2, the fact that they even got Teeny involved here was great. Sarah losing her baby, and all of her scenes in general were the best thing about this episode. Looking forward to the repercussions in the following episodes. This was definitely an explosive episode and it might as well have been the season 3 finale with everything that happened, but I'm glad we're just in the middle of the season and we get an episode like this.moreless
  • Good episode.

While I've enjoyed this third season of Big Love the episodes have been a little too "similar". Not this week, as the Henrickson family went on a voyage to the Joseph Smith shrine, a traditional Mormon venture.

Vacation and trip episodes could often be great, such as the Seinfeld Los Angeles episodes and the early days of One Tree Hill, and this was one of those times. We got to see the characters in a whole other light (including Margene in a swimsuit which we could certainly live with more of) and we saw just why this show is so good.

While I'm not crazy about the potential of a Margene/Ben relationship, I am glad Sara won't be having the baby. Big Love does not need to resort to cliches like that to have good television.moreless
  • Best episode of the show to date.

While watching Seasons 1 and 2, I noticed that this episode was the highest ranked episode on tv.com for this particular show. I was intrigued to understand why, and I must say, I certainly see the appeal. Gone are the dramatic scenes of Juniper Creek and the focus on fourth wives and Henrickson Home Plus. Instead, we get a superb hour of television that focuses mainly on family tension and the discovery of secrets that have been around as early as Season 1. I was floored the entire time and found myself unable to predict where anything was going next.

The basic idea of the episode is this: Bill takes the entire family across the country on a pilgrimage to bury a time capsule at the location where an angel appeared to Joseph Smith for the first time. Along the way, the family deals with Margene wanting to find a place to let her mom's ashes go, Sarah's frustrations with her mother and the family's struggles to find as much importance in the trip as Bill.

From minute to minute, we're given moments that surprise us. I wouldn't have been at all disappointed if this was the season finale. First, we have the family discovering that Nikki is on birth control. This dovetails nicely with Sarah's pregnancy and creates an excellent scene where Barb believes Sarah is using birth control. Bill's reaction to this revelation, along with what Nikki did to get Roman out of jail, leaves me wondering if Nikki is going to be in the Henrickson family much longer.

We also get an interesting new development between Ben and Margene that is piquing my interesting more than any other plot point. Ben and Margene see each other naked, which makes Margene awkward and Ben realize he's in love with her. He leaves her a love note, which Teenie finds and approaches Margie with. We also get Nikki continuing to talk to Mr. Henry, her boss at the D.A's office. Surprisingly, she seems to enjoy it.

As if this wasn't enough development for one episode, Sarah has a miscarriage which Nikki learns about, and is forced to tell her family. This ends the episode on a tragic note, yet watching Sarah's parents rally around her instead of chastising her made me a little happier.

What a great episode this was. There are dozens of small moments that stood out, and despite my earlier complaints that Bill has become somewhat unlikeable over time, the end of the episode proved him to be a man who is trying to do the best for his family but is struggling with his faith and morals at the same time, The image of the angel rising above Bill as he prays at the end was beautiful and haunting, and is proof that this show is truly one of the Best Drama's around right now.moreless

This was a great episode all the way around. The Henricksons trek across country to bury a time capsule, but end up unearthing alot of secrets along the way. What to talk about first? Well, Ben finally got his wish and saw Margene naked while HE was also naked. It was life altering for him, but not for her. Ben thinks he is in love with Margene and even went so far as to write her a loveletter, which was found by Teeny. Alot of folks have been hoping Ben and Margene would hook up, but Margene put Ben in his place. The wives also found out about Bill taking viagra..finally. Unfortunately, the way it came out made Nicki think he only needs it for nights with her. That along with Nicki having private conversations with her boss could spell disaster. Speaking of disaster, Nicki's birth control secret came out. Bill and Barb were both fit to be tied over that and I don't know how they will deal with it from this point, especially considering Nicki has no intention of having a child anytime soon. The whole trip was terrible and caused Bill to doubt he is leading his family down the right path. The most heartbreaking part of the episode came at the end when Sarah miscarried her baby, I daresay many viewers were dry-eyed after that. I don't know what is ahead for the family, but the thin ice they have been skating on since we first met them is really starting to crack.moreless
