    Hey wait a minute:



    Cara Lyn tells her mom that once she turns 16 she wants Nicki's permission to marry Mr. Ivy. This seems to give the idea that Utah is a "16 with parental permission" age of consent type state.


    If that is true, then what the heck is the problem with Bill and Marjean. She was 16 and according to her interview on tv, her Mom didn't really object to the relationship, citing Pricilla Presley being only 15 when she started dating Elvis.


    So what's the big deal? Anyone else catch this?

    You make an excellent point but I seem to recall having read a story where I woman in Georgia married a 14yo and was then arrested for having sex with him so maybe the law doesn't make that distinction

    I think that the issue with Bill and Margene is that they are not legally married. According the state, they are merely having a sexual relationship.

    civile and legal ages are different concepts. in many places, you can drive a car at 16 (legal) but you have to wait till youre 21 to go to jail.
