  • Margenes Mom is as messed up as I imagined

Margenes Mom comes for a visit. Apparently she knows nothing of the polygamous arrangement. Surprise Surprise, Nicki breaks the news to her. She is also an alcoholic and tries to put the moves on Bill. Sounds like fun, yeah? Bill gets himself deeper and deeper into the Weber gaming situation, and we all know this is going to hit him in the face very soon. Frank shows back up and wants to know where Lois is getting her money and how he can get his hands on it. I wonder why he called Lois's brother a "c*5ksucker"...there has to be a backstory there. Barb brings Wanda home from the mental hospital and Frank was ready to take revenge on her, but he should think twice given her history. Joey looks as if he may be considering a new wife, and we know it is only because it's what Wanda wants. Scott also visits Bill and lets him know about Alby and how he has kept tabs on Sarah. Bill finds and beats the crap out of Alby. YAY! The show is heating up and I feel like we are spiraling toward something huge this season. Can't wait to see what happens!
  • Margene's mom comes to town, and she must decide how/when to tell her she's a polygamist now. Nicky slips up when she finds out Barb and Bill were caught smooching. Rhonda causes more trouble for Sarah and Heather.

I loved the interaction between Margene's mom and Nicky....Accepting polygamy because Nicky was born into it, Margene had the choice...getting tanked in the middle of the afternoon and hitting on Bill...there was a lot of character development in this episode...we understand why in a sense Margene even was attracted to polygamy....the lact of judgement and competition....she had to deal with her mom growing up. Rhonda, wow someone slap that girl with the reality stick...her character is so obnoxious its many strong personalities in this show!! Loved it!!
  • Margie's mom comes for a visit

This episode Good Guys and Bad Guys has to be the best episode of the show Big Love all season. I tought that it was funny that Margie did not tell her mother about what type of relationship she was getting into evan after her mother got to her house. It was weird to see fences across the yards. It was no surprise that Nicki told Margies mom about their relartionship when she knew it was not what Margie wanted. I was so surprised that Margie's mother was throwing herself at Bill. It was funny that Margie had to tell Nicki what her mother was doing. I think Nicki misses her own family and that is why she was so clingy with Margie's mom.

The mother of a character showing up is something that is traditionally saved for sitcoms, but I suppose that it could happen on some dramatic series as well and have a similar effect. They were clearly going for laughs with Margene's mother, a character who was twice as awkward as her daughter, but unfortunately with less than half the heart. I did not really care for her though as her scenes pretty much brought the episode down. The rest of the cast was just as good as they usually are, but the mother just ruined an otherwise unique episode for me.

The first really weak episode of Big Love in the entire series. This wasn't a bad episode of Big Love by any standard, but just every episode before this has been just way better. Margene's mother coming to visit was a bit of a hit & miss. She brought down all the scenes. Scenes that were supposed to be enjoyable because of Nikki & Margene's fighting, but they weren't.

Barb at the compound was just as uninteresting. What did she really do? Helped Joey & Wanda? With what exactly? All she was asked to do was to drop Wanda off from the mental hospital. Other than the confrontation between Barb & Roman, this plot was really nothing special. However Scott telling Bill that Alby has been following Sarah, an unexpected great scene.

So overall, one weak plot, one weak guest appearance and you've got yourself a weak episode of Big Love, regardless of how good some of the characters remained to be (Nikki, Marge). The arc with the other compound: not really in to it yet. Maybe a couple episodes of development will change my mind.
