Big Love

Such a superb episode of Big Love, we've got great family antics, development and high octane suspense and drama. This show has never really put me at the edge of my seat, but this episode definitely did. The final scene with Nikki was just absolutely amazing. Pushing her own father down the stairs, just a great scene. The beginning was a bit slow paced but it definitely paid off in the end. I liked the idea of Nikki going against Bill in the trial. The thing that touched me most about this episode was Rhonda's story. You really can't help but feel bad for her, even after everything she's done, hitchhiking to LA, leaving everything behind. Probably only to be sexually abused by the truck driver, the final scene just broke my heart, when I saw Julia's name on the screen, I just put my head down in sorrow. One, because Roman Grant was plead not guilty and two the final result of Rhonda. Sarah looking for someone to adopt her baby just made me realize what a great trio Ben, Sarah, and Heather are.



Margene going blond was absolutely hilarious, and Bill proposing to Ana was interesting. Looking forward to the next episode.

Normally, I'm not a huge fan of courtroom dramas. I feel as if they've been done to death and that there is very little you can do with a courtroom show or episode that hasn't been done before. However, this episode of Big Love surprised me by focusing entirely on the build-up to the trial and Bill and Roman's attempts to out-do each other and control the witnesses. When the trial finally rolls around, it's surprising how little they actually show. Instead, we get to see these two guys do what they do best: try to out-smart one another. Sure, Roman may be in jail and Alby in charge, but the core rivalry of the show has always been between Bill and Roman.



With only two witnesses left (Rhonda and Kathy), Bill and Roman fight to make sure they're on their side. As much as I've hated Rhonda throughout the first three seasons, I was intrigued by how vital she became. The tension built as the trial approaches is amazing and I was surprised how well everything came together and made sense in the end.



However, now that I've watched the first three seasons all the way through, I've realized that this was Nikki's season. Nikki has slowly became one of my favorite characters, even if she is betraying Bill in the process. Nikki always came across as extremely irritating to me, so its nice to see her questioning what is right or wrong and thinking for herself for once. She's never been able to think for herself, so even if what she's doing is wrong in Bill's eyes, to me, I'm glad to see her regain some independence. My favorite moment of the episode was when she pushed her father down the stairs. It was unexpected and marked a huge turning point for her.



What a great episode, and to be honest, this season of Big Love may be my favorite. It's as riveting as any other drama on TV right now, and it'll be a shame when it ends.

I haven't been watching this show for long but even I could pick up on just what a big deal this trial was and that speaks volumes about the quality of this show's writing. This was pure, epic drama here and Big Love really is like a faster-moving version of AMC's Mad Men. The fact that more people do not watch this show is simply mind-blowing.



The verdict on the trial was a bit surprising, but something tells me this is not the end and there will be justice dished out to Roman Grant. Nicki pushing him down the steps was just the beginning.

I have to dwell on Nicki for a bit here. She was outstanding in this episode, more than usual. The lengths this woman has went to to help her Father have just astounded me. I think she came to a realization finally that nothing she ever does will be enough to please her Mother and Father. She tried to tell Adaleen about seeing her picture in the JoyBook and Adaleen ignored her. Then she tried to tell Adaleen that she didnt want to marry her first husband, and got shut down again. I think what really did it for Nicki was seeing Kathy and Jodean in court and seeing how it tore them apart just so Roman could "win". And then when "Papa" had the nerve to thank Nicki and tell her that she was responsible for his freedom...that was all she could take and down the stairs Roman went. I had to watch that moment over and over again. Normally I would talk about the other things that happened in the episode, but not this time. Nicki's story just outdid everything, IMO.
