How did he give blood without wolfing out?
Merton bases their defence against the vampires on the fact that in The Lost Boys the vampires couldn't get into the house without an invitation, but this is not true. In the film, being invited into a house means that there is no way for a human to tell that the vampire is a vampire, e.g. they will have a reflection etc. but the vampires do get into the house without an invite towards the end of the movie, only to be destroyed by Sam, Michael, and the Frog brothers.
Tommy: Dude there's no such thing as vampires. Merton: Yeah, that's a lot coming from a werewolf!
(Tommy is reluctantly donating blood) Hugo: Now, less talking, more bleeding. (presses something to Tommy's inner arm) Tommy: Aargh! Hugo: It was only the cotton swab. Tommy: It's a very rough cotton swab.

The lead vampire tells Tommy "Come on Lassie" referring to the dog that did good deeds from the old TV show, Lassie.
The second season of Buffy the Vampire Slayer is referenced when Merton tries to convince Tommy vampires can't come inside unless invited.
The "for dummies" book series is again referenced in this episode, with Merton owning a copy of "Vampires for Dummies"
Tommy says, "If Tom Cruise can do it, why can't I?" alluding to the movie Interview with a Vampire, starring Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt, based on the novel by Anne Rice.
