Fran returns from a vacation in Cornwall to discover Manny has resigned and Bernard is living amongst piles of his own filth and dead badgers. Manny has taken up work at the new bookstore next to Black Books, where he must contend with a new, and possibly even more demanding manager, played by special guest star Simon Pegg.moreless
Bernard says that he takes Manny to the movies each Christmas but back in "The Big Lock - Out", he says he hasn't seen a film since "Planet of the Apes".
Edit
When Fran arrives back at the store after her trip away, there is a pile of unopened post on the mat outside the shop's door. However, when the shot shifts to inside, and Fran walks in, the post is no longer there.
Edit
Simon Pegg's casting as Manny's new boss seems to be a nod to Bill Bailey's casting as Tim's (Simon Pegg's) boss in the comic store in Spaced. Simon Pegg's insistence that Manny shave off his hair, in particular, may well be revenge for Bill Bailey's character disdaining Tim's hairin episode 202 of Spaced, "Change".
Edit
Evan: Manny, I'm a reasonable guy, I like to be honest with people, and I expect the same in return. Now if you tell me the truth, I wont get mad. did you sleep here last night?
Manny: (in a scared voice) Yes I did.
(both laugh uncomfortably)
Evan: (shouting) I'm really angry now!!
Edit
Bernard: (Slurring) Manny, I don't feel that... well. Like I've been beaten up under water. I can feel bits of my brain falling away like wet cake.
Edit
Manny: Well I'll be off then. Since it's all over between us... I'll write.
Bernard: I won't read it.
Manny: Well, I'll call!
Bernard: I'll hang up.
Manny: Well, I'll come and see you!
Bernard: I'll be dead by then.

Bill Bailey, Won't You Please Come HomeThe episode title appears to be a reference to this song by Hughie Cannon.
Bill Bailey (who plays Manny) has often mentioned this song and how people have told him of it, only to his annoyance.Edit
