Do you think Black Gold is better than Deadliest Catch? They're two similar shows just based on different jobs. I found Black Gold more interesting it seems like theres a lot more danger and risks in oil mining.

No, it is far more enjoyable to watch deadliest catch, in my opinion they risk more, and sacrifice more, with oil miners it appears they just need to watch out for that chain.

Haha, yeah but that hurts and people die from oil mining. People on dc just need to know how to swim and its all good.

Deadliest Catch is much more interesting. I work in the oil business and it's not exactly like the way they portray it on the show. Yes, the chain is dangerous and hurts. But there are many other ways to get hurt and killed in the oilfield. In my ten years of experience I've seen more broken and severed bones and limbs than I care to remember. I've been on three jobs with fatalities (none involving the 'chain'). Things can fall on you (hardhats work about as well as tin foil against things heavier than a few pounds), things can burn you, things can crush you. Even with all that considered, the show fails to catch the true nature of the business. I wish someone would do a real show about the business without trying to add drama that doesn't exist (I wonder if Alaska crab fishermen think the same way?)

I like Black Gold better. But, let's face it, that's because I enjoy watching men hard at work getting dirty in the hot sun in sleeveless shirts. I'd like to say there's a deeper reason for it, but that would be a lie.

I've worked on rigs in Texas, NM, Wyoming and Colorado and did a spell on super tankers in AK. I find Black Gold better than the Catch, but both programs are the same in terms of hyping the dangers of the job and the personalities involved. I can relate to BG and the knuckeheads you have to work with. It's TV, so it can only be so "reality" based. Afterall, there is nothing like actually being on the floor with an incompetant driller and idiot roughnecks, ability impaired all while moving tons of steel about your head and hands! I would bet dollars to donuts that more workers are killed each year in the oil patch than crab fishing. Not to mention fingers lost.

I think they need to involve the whole cast, though. The toolpushers and company man and throw in the odd field service tech. I'd also like to see a blowout and lost tool in the hole and the fishing expedition to get it.

BG is way better than deadliest catch. and while i am fully aware that the two are produced by the same people, i found BG to be a lot closer to AXMen than DC. almost identical in setup and delivery. i've never known DC to keep running tallies on the crews with visual representation, though i could be wrong, seeing as DC doesnt hold my interest for longer than a few seconds.

Oilmanjoe, you are correct a good majority of them consider "Deadliest Catch" as a joke ever snice the 2nd season despite Sig's cheerleading of the show.

Black Gold wasn't a bad idea. And when do they mention Texas a lot besides telling you that's where they're mining.
