Dorian, the seemingly youthful owner of the space-ship Scorpio, rescues the crew from Terminal. He says he wants Orac's help to build a teleport facility for Scorpio - but then he tries to kill the survivors from Terminal. In the fight, they kill Dorian and discover his secret.

Now the former Liberator crew has gained a new ship, Scorpio.

  • A new start, but not very good.

    "Good"
With this episode the show entered a new phase, adventures without the Liberator. I could have lived with that, but the disregard for everything that came before ruins the fun. One major character is killed (annoyingly reported in the trivia section of this site) and the others don't seem to be bothered by it. Villa's flippancy during the initial rescue is especially irritating.

The story of the episode itself seems to be promising at first, with Dorian acting as a kind of Han Solo. When it turns into a weak imitation of Oscar Wilde's classic, it becomes silly.

There are a few changes in the look of the show. The interior of the new spaceship, unfortunately, looks extremely cheap. (Cheapness was a fault that originality usually compensated for. Not in this case.)moreless

    "Fair"
The first episode of a new season, season 4, the final ever season.
After the Liberator was destroyed in the last episode of season 3, the remaining members are faced with a new situation, they can no longer depend on their state-of-the-art spaceship. However, this development is quickly remedied by the introduction of another spaceship, the Scorpio with, surprise surprise, another talking computer to replace Zen.
The same can be said about Cally, she dies in this episode (without actually featuring in it, only her voice is heard) but Soolin is introduced.
The character of Dorian, a telling name if ever I heard one, fails to live up to his expectations.
Avon\'s moody looks start to get boring and the plot includes some unrealistic developments.
Not the best possible start to a new seasonmoreless

    ADD TRIVIA
    • Continuity: Terminal was ellipsoidal in the previous episode. In this episode, it has become a perfectly round planet.

    • Crew Visible?: When Vila is going back for Cally, someone moves in the background of the shot. However, based on the motion, it might be intended to be a Link.

    • Continuity: The year and a half delay between the broadcast of "Terminal" and "Rescue" creates some minor continuity issues in the costumes and hair styles of the cast.

  • QUOTES (5)

    ADD QUOTES
    • Tarrant: Avon's quite capable of killing you, you know. Dorian: I never doubted it. Dayna: Beneath that cold exterior beats a heart of pure stone.

    • Tarrant: Better strap down tight. I haven't lifted these into orbit too often. Dayna: How often? Tarrant: Once. Vila: When was that? Tarrant: In about one minute and forty five seconds.

    • Dayna: Don't you ever get bored with being right? Avon: Just with the rest of you being wrong.

    • Avon: Pass out again and I'll leave you, Tarrant. Tarrant: I'm surprised you came back this time. Avon: We stand a better chance as a group. Tarrant: What? While something is eating me you can get away?

    • Tarrant: Vila rescued me? Avon You were injured trying to rescue Cally. He rescued you. Suddenly I am hip deep in heroes. Tarrant: Where is Cally? Avon: Cally is dead. Tarrant: Are you sure? Avon: (after a pause) Yes, I'm sure. Dayna: He went back in. Tarrant: You wanted to be a hero too? Avon: We needed Orac.

    ADD ALLUSIONS
    • Dorian's name is an allusion to the central character in a book by Oscar Wilde, The Picture of Dorian Gray. The two Dorians do not grow old. Both have a room to get rid of their vices, and when they die, both of them age instantly.
