Don Kanonji, the star of a show that specializes in spirit exorcism, comes to Ichigo's town to do a live show. Kanonji thinks he is exorcising an earth bound spirit but instead he turns it in to a Hollow. Now he must rely on Ichigo's help to defeat it.moreless
  • Don Kanonji - what a character! Too bad he's completely cluless. WAAHAAHAAHAA!!

This episode is a nice break from the relatively series last few episodes. As I said, episode eight and nine were pretty intense in action and seriousness - so episode ten is a nice comedic release.

I liked the friendly dialog between Orihime and Ichigo. we begin to get a sense of the interaction, or vibes, between the two teenagers.

I like that this episode takes place in a haunted old, abandoned hospital - giving a nice nod to many japanese horror flicks. Abandoned building exploration, called Haikyo in Japanese, is a fringe hobby, which Bleach uses to its advantage in episode ten.

This episode has a nice blend of action, comedy, and some light teenage romance.moreless
  • Spirits are always with you!

Mwahahahahaha! Ichigo finds himself in an interesting situation; a man with high spiritual energy runs a show exercising ghosts. During one of his latest expeditions, the exorcism goes a bit wrong as Don Kanonji has to fight a hollow. Ichigo, conveniently being at the scene, assists him. A pretty average episode overall; doesn't really offer much laughs and I have a feeling the whole "Mwahaha" and "Spirits are always with you!" is going to be a running gag later on. The action was decent, and the whole story about the Hollow and Don Kanonji was pretty average. Not a bad episode though.moreless

MWAHAHAHAHAHAHA, lol, Everyone in ichigos town gets caught up in this really spooky ghost show premiring in a so called haunted hospital but there is a trapped soul there and ichigo needs to help him cross over but the show star awakens him into a hollow and ichigo must fight him off.moreless
  • Bleach episode 10; Average!

So, there is this new show that has everyone totaly psyched, it's about Don Kan'oji, a man whith he ability to sense ghosts, and he "removes" them on TV nationwide in Japan. All of Ichigo's friends, including Rukia, gets all into the show, but Ichigo doesn't like it at all.
It also turns out that Don Kan'oji is actually forcing the ghosts to turn to Hollows isntead. Ichigo and Don Kan'oji then has to fight the Hollow that appears, and Ichigo understands why Don does what he does; because the children needs a hero, to give them courage and such.
This, of course, makes Ichigo realize that he isn't a bad person, and so they defeat the Hollow, and Ichigo lets Don take all the praise.
I liked how Don isn't the usual "all-fame-to-me" person who dosn't care about anyone else; he is actually a person that knows that what he does has a higher achievement, and that is why he does it. But, I'm not the person that likes him the most, so...
A good episode, but definitely not my favorite. 8.9/10moreless
  • Ichigo is clumsy. Kanonji is not completely useless. In the end, the flamboyant Don Kanonji learns a valuable hollow sparing lesson even without the aid of Rukia's cutesy evil hollow-bunny drawings.moreless

This was a stand-alone episode and if nothing else, serves as an introduction to the fabulous and "heroic" future episode filler, Don Kanonji. This episode also confirms that out of Ichigo's classmates, Orihime and Chad definitely have awareness to spirits. It is also suggested the Tatsuki can hear the horrible howls of the jibaku (fixed location ghost) turning hollow. This episode ended abruptly and strayed greatly from the manga. Considering it was a one-shot, I guess they didn't have time for an overabundance of comic relief. This episode was mediocre in comparison. I'm just not fond of Don Kanonji and I'm glad that this story only lasted for one episode but a lot of the fun stuff that appeared in the manga didn't make the cut.

One occurrence that deserves honorable mention is the change in Rukia's attitude. In the Masaki Kurosaki-related episodes, both Kon and Ichigo complain, "It's always hollows with you." Rukia changes from Ichigo's work partner to a friend when she is concerned about Ichigo's well being. "You must be tired from school and soul reaper work. Take this opportunity to unwind!"

Overall, it's worth watching not only for Don Kanonji's eccentric entrance but also for his hysterical catch phrases and unconventional fans. "Good night, babies."moreless

    • The location, an abandoned hospital, is an allusion to the fringe hobby of Haikyo (in Japanese Haikyo means 'ruins'), as well as a nod to the creep Japanese horror flicks that often use abandoned buildings/hospitals as locations.
