  • Anyone but Chad :(

    8.0
    "Great"
Suspense was a big part of this episode, but at the same time it felt a bit pointless. It was just a bunch of scenes where Ichigo, Ishida, Chad, and Renji are running all over the town at a specific time in order to answer the phone. It was suspenseful but was that suspense put to good use? Just a little bit, because although we finally see the faces of the assailants, we don't know exactly their motifs yet. Who are they? What do they want? Those questions have yet to be answered and it was a bit exciting, but it could have done better than just the four of them running around town and answering random payphones.moreless
  • Why Viz shouldn't dub Bleach in the first palce

    2.0
    "Terrible"
Apparently, Matt Millaro and his co-horts at William Street animation studios were awarded the rights to the Viz Media name and came up with this ill-conceived anthology anime that wasn't true to the oringenal dub from japan, William Street's had been notorious for making some really taciturn cartoons (the second & Third s season of "Chalkzone" and Studio B's "Yakkity Yak" notwithstanding), and their attempts to do Japan's dub craziness using Pop culture refences & put Strong Bad & Lok only in the US verson is textbook examples of how not to make such a show. The character designs are grotesque--granted, the old William Street/Soup 2 Nut shows (Home Movies & Assy McGee) had grotesque characters but there was a refinement and polish to them. The characters in this series are as refined and polished as fingernails in dire need of an emery board. Story wise, it's cookie-cutter, atypical of the times and atypical of Viz. Breaking the fourth wall (not taking it personal w/ fans) had become cliche but could be funny if used novelly. Here it isn't. Strong Bad was first seen in the Yakkity Yak High Fashion Yak, having developed "6teen" which Nalavana made as a series in 2004. That proved you couldn't do WS's by nature. The english dub of "Bleach" proved you can't do make japan look like fools.moreless
  • In this episode, there's a race against time mixed with the element of ironic twists all rolled up into one appealing episode.

This night marks the night where I was my first episode and I must admit that this episode is amazing! Once again, Renji is still considered to be a moocher and I find that hilarious. There was this one part where Chad, Ichigo, Renji, and Uryu were running to the pay phones in specific areas and the catch was that they had to arrive within three minutes of the time they hang up. The last time to get to the phone was not known due to the fact that the viewers don't hear where the location of the next phone is. This part was one of the more enjoyable moments in this episode. After finding Orihime, the ironic part comes along when Chad is attacked and nearly killed by a possessed Orihime. Well, I guess a detailed explanation of Orihime's possessed state will be explained in the next episode so tune in next week!moreless

    • Shinigami Golden: Late at night at the Urahara Shop, Renji is trying to sneak some food. But before he can eat anything, a rubber band comes flying at him and hits him on his hand. He yelps in pain and looks over at door, where Jinta (who flicked the rubber band) and Urahara are looking at him. Urahara makes a comment that Renji is naïve.

    • Renji is raiding Orihime's fridge when they are in her apartment, but he is clearly in spiritual form. Without being in a Gigai, does Renji require food, and should he even be able to eat it?

    • Goof: Renji says "Hell doesn't come and take living souls." Hell is the word they use for the Underworld in the original version.

    • Goof: At the start of the episode, of all the captains, Byakuya is clearly missing, if the other captains are healed by that time, why isn't he there. If it was a captains meeting.

    • (preview for the next episode) Renji: I'm tellin' ya... there's got to be something wrong with my gigai! I can never get out of it quick enough. Ichigo: You want me to lend you my Soul Candy? Renji: Oh, wow! Thanks! That would be great! Uh, let's see. Yours was... uh... Kon: Hey! Did you want something from me? Renji: I changed my mind. I don't wanna get stupid. Kon: Hey!

    • Ichigo: And by the way, how come you're not wearing that cape of yours? Uryu: Uh... well... I had to take it to the dry cleaners. Chad: Your cape is dry clean only? You serious? Uryu: (defensively) Yeah, so? What's wrong with looking good?

    • (Ichigo, Uryu, Chad and Renji are trying to get into Orihime's apartment; Uryu starts to pick the lock on the front door.) Chad: Hey... I think it's illegal to pick a lock. Uryu: Well, right now, we have no choice. Ichigo: At least it's better than breaking down the door! Uryu: Instead of jabbering, why don't you make sure no one is watching us? Ichigo: You know what? You kinda seem to have a knack for sneaky jobs like this, Uryu. Uryu: I don't think I like what you're insinuating!

    • Uryu: If only we knew what that strange gate was... Renji: To me, it looked like the gate straight into the Underworld. Uryu: Is there such a thing? Renji: You've never heard of it? Ichigo: Well, I have. I saw it once before, in fact. Renji: That wasn't it, though. There's no way Hell would make off with a living human being.
