  • Uhhh what the hell?

The episode started off interestingly enough; the crew find themselves being chased by a living organism on their way to Soul Society. After making safe passage from the living world to Soul Society, they find themselves confronted by a giant who protects the gate. Now here is where the episode falls. Just about 80% of this episode was about Ichigo's fight with Jidanbou, if you can even call it a fight. Almost all of it was just pointless blabber, bragging, non humourous comedy, etc. To sum it all up, it was just silly. It wasn't that bad though, Ichigo was kind of badass in this episode, but it just dragged on. The ending was pretty nice too.moreless
  • It was a rather exciting episode due to Ichigo's fight with Jidanbô.

Ichigo's barely up to Jidanbô's knees, yet he can still defeat him practically effortlessly. Lol. But Jidanbô wasn't such a tough guy. He's an expert on manners, can't count to 10, and has a complete breakdown when Ichigo destroys both his axes. He really did have a lot of mood swings too. Going from tough guy, to devastated, to happy/sad. It was funny when he said Ichigo had a cute name. :P Ichigo got all defensive saying "Ichi" means #1 and "go" means guardian. :P This episode also revealed how strong Ichigo had gotten because of the training Urahara put him through. For the most part, I really liked this episode.moreless
  • In this episode Ichigo must defeat a gate guardian who is in charge of keeping people out of the town where the soul reapers live. The man that Ichigo faces has not been defeated in 300 years, but Ichigo's training helped him alot and he easily wins.moreless

This was a great episode to tell the fans where Ichigo's power level is at. He makes easy work of a giant that has not been defeated in 300 years. It shows how much improvement he has made in the last ten days and how determined he is to save Rukia.

  • TRIVIA (2)

    • Kon's Ultimate Shinigami Illustrated Guide: 2nd squad captain Soi Fong - what're you, some home guardian spirit?

    • After Ichigo tells Jidanbō that he is going to smash his axes, he manoeuvres the sword so that the blades edge will hit the axes. Yet after the swing, we see the blade edge is facing forward. It should be facing behind Ichigo.

  • QUOTES (8)

    • Orihime: Guys, isn't this great? We all made it and everyone's okay.
Yoruichi: It's not great! We were lucky! (headbutts Orihime's eye)
      Orihime: My eye!

    • Uryu: I knew it'd be rough getting through that gate, but I had no idea it would take such a toll on my equipment. I wasn't expecting to have to use my spirit cape so soon.
Ichigo: Aw man... Don't tell me he brought a change of clothes.

    • Chad: (thinking) Now I understand. What Ichigo gained from his training wasn't fighting skills... and it wasn't just strength and stamina either...
Urahara: Ichigo has spiritual powers far beyond that of most Soul Reapers, but he has a long way to go, because he's still inexperienced at wielding that great power.
      (end flashback)
Chad: (thinking) So before... when he confronted that other Soul Reaper... the only thing that Ichigo was lacking was experience. And now that he's gained that...
      Ichigo: Are you finished, Gatekeeper?
Chad: (thinking) ...I have a feeling...
Ichigo: Cause if you are, then it's my turn now!
Chad: (thinking) ...he's gonna be so powerful, it's scary.

    • Ichigo: Listen! I'll tell you all an interesting little story. Remember when I was training with Mr. Hat and Clogs? He said it was gonna take me ten days for my Soul Reaper powers to be completely restored. But, as it turned out, it only took me five days. So what do you think I did for those other five days?
Uryu: Knowing you, probably goofing off...
Ichigo: I fought with him the whole time... for so long... non-stop, for five days and nights. He and I battled each other one on one.
Uryu: I see. And you learned all his fighting techniques, right?
      Ichigo: Wrong again.
Uryu: So what's your point then?
Ichigo: I didn't learn a single thing from him about fighting. But in those long hours... I gained tremendous strength and stamina.

    • Ichigo: Don't worry! Just wait for me over there! It'll be fine!
Uryu: I refuse to do that!
      Orihime: Yeah, tell him!
Uryu: Ichigo, we can't afford to wait around! Instead of wasting time battling the guard individually, we've got to attack together and get past this gate!
      Ichigo: You're here too, Uryu?
Uryu: (growls): I've been here the whole time! It's just like you to waste time with stupid comments, Ichigo!
Ichigo: Oh, shut up! You're giving me a headache!

    • Jidanbo: So your name is Ichigo, spiky head?
Ichigo: That's right, I'm Ichigo Kurosaki.
Jidanbo: That's a pretty cute name for someone who seems to take themselves so seriously, don't you think?
Ichigo: My name is not cute! "Ichi" means number one, and "go" stands for guardian and that's what I am.
Jidanbo: Yeah, whatever, you take care now.

    • Jidanbo: Here are the rules.
Rule number one: Always wash your hand before you sit down to eat.
Rule number two: Don't eat food that has fallen on the floor.
Rule number three: Battles in the city are always fought one on one.

    • (Cries like a baby)
Jidanbō: "Why did you have to destroy my axes!?"
