In this topic, you take your best guess at how old the Shinigami characters are in human years rather than their actual age.

For example, I believe Renji is 15 in human years. He looks about as old as Ichigo and behaves in a somewhat similar manner.

BTW, don't anyone tell me. I know this is a pretty weird idea, but what can I say? I'm veerrrryyy bored.

Well...you bring up a really good point...which is that all these characters are too damn young. I mean, look at Ichigo, He's so buff that he could run through a brick wall. Also, to have such unfaltering determination at his age seems bizarre. Sorry, it's just, that after the first episode, I totally forgot that Ichigo is just a freshman in high school.

Ichigo and company are not 15, they're in their younger 20's. Kubo lied to get Japan to read.

Whats funny to me is that in the current chapters of both, Bleach and Naruto are the same age and Ichigo looks about 8 years older.

Actually OneNotTaken, it's not funny to just you. Although I wouldn't have laughed if you hadn't pointed that out

I don't fully understand this issue either. Ichigo is said to be 15, and yet his attitude is that of someone much older. (Go ahead and try to find a real 15 year old with the same determined attitude, while someone may be out there, it'll be hard)

And I know he has huge power, but he looks like he could rip someone in half without trying.

That's the problem with anime, people are younger than they look. Men that looking in their late 20s are actually 18 and the sexiest girl you see is underage. The only animes that shock me that people older than they look, is Rurouni Kenshin, Gundam 00, and Near in Death Note.

We did a pretty nice job of derailing this thread.

Also, to the poster above me, the age of consent in Japan is 13. Orihime's perfectly legal in her native land.

Since Rukia has about 50 years and looks like 20 it means that a shinigami year is about 2.5 human years.

Yup. Just like how Shunsui is 2,000, and he looks 800.

Also, Rukia is much older than fifty years.

10 (ten) Shinigami years = 1 (one) human year.

    Best guess.

I think that would be about what my guess would be, at least for most characters, I don't know any humans who would live as long as Yama-jii. By that equation he would be over 200 years old in human years, doesn't make much sense.

They age erratically, there is no formula. Remember Ganju's flashback? When he was a kid and Rukia looked exactly the same? Now he looks older than her. There's no way to make sense of it.

This is also not the subject of the thread in the first place...not that a single post thus far has been on-topic. :p

Does anyone agree with me that Hitsugaya does NOT look like a kid?! 0____0

Seriously, he's like.... 18 in my mind xD Well, he looks that way, not an elementary school or middle school kid.... @_@

He looks like a young teenager to me.

Certainly not 18. That's about the age Ichigo and those in his age group look, despite being 15-16.

    I don't see it.... T___T

I agree though with Ichigo's age being off... I can NEVER think of him as fifteen. It just seems to young... 0.o

One might speculate that their level of reiatsu is a major factor. i.e. the powerful ones age slower than the weaker ones, but to age at all you have to have a certain amount of reiatsu to begin with. Or it could be the reverse, that the stronger ones "grow old" faster.

On-topic, Kenpachi would probably be late 30s early 40s.

Some of the ages that I assume the characters are:

Pre Teen: Yachiru ( or she's got Benjamin Button syndrome, and she's really old)

Teens: Hitsuguya (he's really short, so he might actually be the same age as Hinamori, but I think he's a few years younger)

Early Twenties: Renji,Rukia,Kira,Hinamori (all attended Shinigami Academy together, graduated, have been shinigami for a while) Hisagi would be a few years older than this group.

Late twenties, early thirties: Byakuya, Gin, Matsumoto, Nanao, Soi Fong, Ikakku, Yumichika (not sure on the Yumi/Ikakku, but you can place everyone else as the young proffesional crowd pretty easily using the TBTP arc as a guideline)

Late Thirties, Early Forties: Yoruichi, Urahara, Isshin, Tousen, most of the Vaizard, Mayuri, Tessai, Ryuuken, Kuukaku, Kenpachi (Already shinigami when the group before them were children, but not as old or tenured as the "Original Guard")

Fifty something: "Original Guard" minus the old man, Kyoraku, Ukitake, and Unohana (Older than all the other captains, probably by quite a bit)

Ancient: Yamamoto, Komamura(If you go by dog years, which is age multiplied by seven, I think)

I think Aizen might really be old and wrinkled like Yamamoto, but makes everyone think he looks young with Kyoka Suigetsu, which would explain his massive power level and mad kido skills
