Bleach: What's up with Nel??

Ok, I finished ep 146 last night where Nel makes her first appearance. Despite being rather cute and amusing, there was something else that stuck out in my mind. I haven seen some posts on this forum shipping Ichigo+Nel. Um...well, despite being rather cynical, I have to assume that there is some other explanation. Does Nel grow up ultra fast? Or something like that?

neliel tu oderschvank (now going by nel tu) was the 3rd espada. noitra's punk ass was 8th at the time, and jealous of how badass she was, and pissed because she pitied him for being so weak, so one day, he wrecks her fraccion (dondochakka and pesche guatiche) and sneaks up behind her and cracks her skull. instead of dying, however, she transformed into the adorably obnoxious childlike form we know and love, allowing her to survive. she loses all memory of being an espada, but still has some reccolection of who the others are.

later, when noitra's about to attack an already beaten down ichigo, nel temporarily reverts to her former glorious gorgeous self and kicks noitra's ass a bit before running out of power and poofing right back to her child form.
