It seems that every so often, Bleach loves doing pointless monologues for every small thing and making it seem like a Shakespeare piece. For example, Rukia must have been ten minutes talking about how scary Ichimaru Gin looked and used a bunch of metaphorical devices to describe it in every way imaginable. It wouldn't have been so bad if Bleach didn't do this so frequently. And then the whole resolve to live, at least that was decently executed. The fight between Tousen and Kenpachi was interesting though as Kenpachi has to use pain as a part of his fighting methods due to Tousen's bankai. Unfortunately the action was extremely limited and it was outweighted by the endless talking going on.moreless

is was a good episode the only bad thing is people are saying that they cut stuff out but they did not the renji fight was in the one before i have watch the japanese version then the english dub the only thing is in the japanes one it 52 and 53 put togetther but in the english one they spilt the episodes one a couple mouths ago one now it simple they do not cut anying of bleach out in any episode all the blood and gore and fighting are the same but it was good i can not wait to see the next one this saturdaymoreless
  • Okay, FYI for the dubbed only watchers: The episode was butchered down from a 48 minute special to a 20 minute episode for english televison. It was quite sad.

Not just quite, but extremely hard to watch. I've seen the Japanese subbed episode about four times. It's a long drawn out battle between Byakuya and Renji, but in the dubbed, because of all the editing, it seemed like Renji didn't put up much of a fight. It seemed as if Byakuya walked in slapped him (Renji) and then walked out. I was completely and utterly ashamed. ASHAMED. But that wasn't even the worst part: They cut half of Ichigo's scenes with Zangetsu and then they cut the part at the end where Ichimaru shows up to taunt Rukia about her resolve to die. Totally cold. Adult Swim should be beat. They should have been smart enough to realize that if they were putting Bleach on hiatus, that last night's episode was a wise choice to stop at. It was somewhat a cliffhanger...and unfair to the die-hard english watchers. My advice? Download the 52-53 subbed special, suck it up and read all that you MISSED! It's worth it.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (4)

    • During the preview at the end of the episode, Rukia is shown being crucified; however, the animators forgot to add the scaffold behind her, giving the impression that she's floating in midair.

    • When Captain Tousen initiates his bankai, it robs his opponent of his senses: Sight, Hearing and the ability to sense spirit pressure. (He is still left with touch though)
For some reason though, Tousen explains his Bankai to Kenpachi even though Kenpachi should not be able to hear.

    • When Kenpachi manages to cut Tousen, he looks at his blade and sees a little blood so he knows he got a hit. However, he should not be able to see at all, since he is inside Tousen's bankai.

    • When Tosen's Bankai forms a cricket's chirp is heard, because Enma Korogi translates to Field Cricket.

  • QUOTES (4)

    • Gin: (referring to Renji) But he will die, soon. It's kind of pathetic. He tried to save your life but he just got cut to pieces.
Rukia: Don't you dare make light of him!
      Gin: Are you afraid?
      Rukia: Afraid? Of what?
Gin: You don't want Renji and the others to die trying to rescue you, do you? Knowing they're trying to save you must make this all the more painful... Want me to save you?
Other Shinigami: C-captain Ichimaru!? You don't mean it!? What are you saying, sir!?
Gin: I could rescue you from this execution and save your life right now. You and Renji, and the others too.
Rukia: (thinking) Is he serious? What could he possibly have to gain by saving me? There's even less reason for him to wanna save Ichigo and Renji. Why would he say such a thing?
Gin: You think I'm kidding? (pats Rukia on the head) I am. (walks away) Bye bye, Rukia. I'll see you once more, at the Sokyoku.
Rukia: (thinking) I can't believe I let him do that to me! After I had abandoned all hope... accepted my fate and my impending death, he was able to shake my resolve! By holding out that small sliver of hope, he managed to make me yearn just a bit! He made me wanna live again! How could he have shattered my strength so easily!? (screams)

    • Kenpachi: (thinking) I got a hit this time. Just a graze, but still... this Bankai that destroys senses is a nuisance. But at least I still have my sense of touch, and as long as I have that, I can feel the moment his blade makes contact, then dodge and counterattack. So I know he's not going to be able to kill me, and I'm starting to inflict some damage on him, but this is a boring way to fight. It's so much more fun to cut and slash.

    • Tosen: (thinking) You're dangerous, Kenpachi Zaraki, far too dangerous to be allowed to live! (stabs him) What? No... he didn't even dodge.
Kenpachi: (grabs Tosen's arm) Well hello, so we meet again.
      Tosen: Impossible!

    • Kenpachi: So that's what's under that basket. I always wondered, but I have to admit that it wasn't what I was expecting.
Komamura: You don't seem shocked by what you see.
Kenpachi: Outward appearances have nothing to do with fighting abilities. The only question is if your beastly appearance also means you fight with a beast's strength and tenacity. That's what matters.
