The show picks up where we left off previously. While it sort of explains why Gin did what he did. It still leaves a lot in the air. Though I can understand waiting on this because of the coming battle between Ichigo and Aizen.
Although the rest of the show is really used to fluff Ichigo's new powers. They are trying to build up in one episode what they tore down in multiple. They took multiple episodes to pull down Ichigo's character using fear and suddenly use the "quick" button again to gain a leap in power. Much like what happened when Ichigo learned his Bankai.
I enjoy this show a lot, and like this episode a lot. But all these convenient power upgrades at the last second...come on. It has become a crutch.
By the way, Ichigo looks like he lost a few years in the void. Way too Emo.moreless
Episode Summary

We pick up where we left off in the previous episode and find the aftermath of Gin's betrayal. A short scene explains why Gin has done this. An incident in the past involving Rangiku and Aizen has sent Gin along this path. Aizen uses his own fear of death to evolve into a being that transcends both Soul Reaper and Hollow. Ichigo appears. The battle begins, as mountain tops explode from each parried attack. In a true show of power Ichigo catches Aizen's sword, and literally waives off a level 90 Kido spell (enhanced by both Soul Reaper and Hollow powers). We end with a "To Be Continued", after the realization that the power behind the "mountain leveling" blows were from Ichigo's sword...not Aizen's.moreless

During the "To Be Continued" scene, Ichigo's sword strike against Aizen shows off a new version of his zanpakuto. Curiously, the hilt is drawn in a more pronounced shape of a swastika. While a stigmatized taboo among the western world because of Nazi Germany, it remains widely used symbol in Eastern religions, specifically in Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism.
