Episode Summary

Ichigo finally regains his resolve to fight, and more importantly regains control of his body. Meanwhile, Aizen's true target is revealed to be the King's Key, a duplicate of which can be made only by extracting 100,000 souls from the spirit-enriched Karakura Town.

  • Aizen's true intentions

First half started off with where the previous one left off; Ichigo is continuing his internal battle in order to tame the hollow within him. Fortunately this imaginary battle with Kenpachi is better than the other two he's had, and most importantly, it finally ends. In a way though the first half felt like it was just really lacking; the fact that this dragged on for so long just detracts from it. Second half though, despite no action, it gets a huge boost in character development as we discover the true intentions of Aizen. It was like solving a mystery and you were itching to find out more. The second half does a great job of compensating for the first half.moreless
  • Brought great influence and brought back the decent soundtrack! Best one in ages!

A fantastic way to conclude Ichigo’s fight with his inner hollow. Loved the quick twirl of the sword before attacking. I also loved the fact that they used decent soundtrack, ‘Nothing Can Be Explained’ and ‘On the Principe of Defeat’, throughout the episode. The plot was carried very well leading from one event to the next. The episode certainly shows why Bleach is one of the best animes of all time. I feel that it succeeds in suggesting that we will see Ichigo’s hollow again by having the voice actor emphasise his last words before he disappears. Ichigo shows why he is the main character of this story.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (3)

    • When Ichigo starts breaking out of his Hollow transformation in the real world, they show the shock on the faces of the Vizards. When they show this, Hiyori is looking over her right shoulder, watching what is happening. Yet, the next time we see her, Hiyori is looking to her left at Ichigo.

    • At the end of episode 124, Ichigo's Inner Hollows' right hand becomes flesh coloured. Yet, as his Inner Hollow is disintegrating in 125, the same right hand is bone white again.

    • At one point after Ichigo defeats his Inner Hollow, he is looking at the Vizards, but you can't see the barrier that surrounds him until Hachi dispels it. Before that, you could always see the barrier.

  • QUOTES (3)

    • (Ichigo defeats his inner Hollow)
Hollow Ichigo: Shit! Looks like your instincts, and your desire to fight, aren't completely gone. Guess there's no way around it. You got me. I have to recognize you as the King, for now. But don't you ever forget! Don't forget that either one of us could become the king or the horse. If you give me the chance, I'll drag you down and crush your skull! And one last warning. If you really want to control my power, make sure you don't die before I show up again!

    • (Ichigo is fighting Kenpachi)
Ichigo: I don't have any reason to fight you!
Kenpachi: You want a reason... for fighting? Why don't you just accept it already, Ichigo? You seek out fights. You desire power. Isn't that right, Ichigo? Everyone who searches for power, without exception, searches for battle! Do you fight in order to become more powerful? Or do you want more power so you can fight? I can't tell you that. The only thing I know for sure is guys like us were born this way! We were born to fight, Ichigo! Your instincts will keep leading you towards new battles. It's the only way you have. The only way to become stronger. Fight, Ichigo! If you want the power to control your enemy, take that sword in your hand and cut him down! That's your only option! That's the road that continues in front of you and remains behind you. Ichigo!

    • Yamamoto: We must all train ourselves and prepare as best we can.
      Tôshirô & Rangiku: Yes, sir.
Yamamoto: And Inoue Orihime. Aizen is after the real world. Situations will come where we alone will not be adequate. We need the real world to gather it's strength as well. Would you tell that to Kurosaki Ichigo for me?
      Orihime: Okay!
