Has anyone read the books that this series is based on?  If so, are they worth reading?

I read the 5 novels when they were first published - and I've read them a couple more times since then.

The short stories were published in different collections, so putting them all in the second half of book three makes them much eaiser to find. I was kind of wondering how 5 novels made three omnibus of equal size ;-)

The author is Tanya Huff, the series is called The Blood Books. As someone else mentioned there are five novels in the series plus a bunch of short stories.

They've been collected into three omnibus novels. Volume I contains Blood Trail (2nd in series) and Blood Price (1st in series), Volume II contains Blood Lines (3rd in series) and Blood Pact (4th in series), and Volume III contains Blood Debt (5th in series) and Blood Bank (collection of the short stories).

Each book deals with a different type of supernatural creature: 1) Demons, 2) Werewolves, 3) Mummies, 4) Zombies, and 5) Ghosts.

Here's a link to site that has a complete list of her other series and works, click here.

She also wrote a couple of related books that follow Henry and Tony, but I can't remember the names of them. This is a good series, and very promising as a basis for a tv show, but we'll see how well they do. When they make a show out of a series of books they have to take liberties, granted, but it's a fine line to walk. But it's another chick who kicks @$$, so I'll be following it, at least for now.

I was actually in the middle of ordering the books myself when I read that they were making a tv series about them. I borrowed the first three books and the Summoning Series (fantastic as well by the way) by Tanya Huff from my cousin and absolutely loved them, I've just never been able to get my hands on the rest of the series. Can't wait to see the show and get my hands on those books.

Like your signature in terms of the shows you watch. If you're a TVaholic, I wonder what I am, as my list is about 1 1/2 times longer than yours and excludes 9 of the shows on your list.

Hmmm...also looking at your list have you tried out the following shows: The Dresden Files (based off of the Jim Butcher series of books), NCIS (quirky and fun dialogue like Bones), The Unit (Special forces show based off of the Inside the Delta Force book and the guy who wrote it), Criminal Minds (criminal profiling intrigues me and the cast is good), Numb3rs (the brothers, one an FBI agent, the other a math genius, and the supporting cast are good), Shark (James Woods, nuff said ), and Eureka (fun show about a U.S. Marshall becoming sheriff of the quirky town of Eureka which houses geniuses collected from around the world since the time of Roosevelt).

And another Firefly fan, cool, Long Live the Browncoats!!

I visited my local libray (upstate NY). MY library didn't have any of her stuff and neither did the SYSTEM of libraries that service us. I find that a little discouraging, as they usually have all the good stuff. Anyway, I went to Amazon a ordered the first volume of the Blood Books. Hey, I've wasted money on stupider stuff.

Smoke and Mirrors is not Book Six in the Blood Series.

Smoke and Mirrors is the second book in the Smoke Series.

There are three books so far, don't know if there will be more as it was originally listed as a trilogy, but who knows, consider the unending Wheel of Time Series (originally was suppose to be a trilogy or four books, expanded to seven books, and is now currently at eleven books, who knows when it will end. )

The three books so far are:

    Smoke and Shadows
    Smoke and Mirrors
    Smoke and Ashes

They're a spin-off series from the Blood Series that Blood Ties is based on. Henry Fitzroy from the Blood Series along with his ex-lover Tony are the stars of this series, although Tony is the main focus of the series, with Fitzroy in a more supporting character role as I think he's present in the first and third novels, but not the second.

Tony learns that he is a wizard and meets his mentor, Arra Pelindrake, in the first book as he and Fitzroy protect her from her archenemey, the Shadowlord, the second book has a haunted house, and the latest book has a demon lord, if I'm remembering correctly.

You're a fan of The Dresden Files? Cool.

There are currently 8 books out in paperback, and the ninth book is forthcoming in April.

    They are in order:

    Storm Front
    Fool Moon
    Grave Peril
    Summer Knight
    Death Masks
    Blood Rites
    Dead Beat
    Proven Guilty
    White Knight (April)

Some good websites are Jim Butcher (this is the author's website), Amazon (the Amazon listings of the books), Dresden Files (the Wikipedia entry on the Dresden Files), and Characters (the wikipedia entry on the characters of the Dresden Files).
