I am really going to have to go back and read Tanya Huff's books. The monsters on this show seem to be very similar to the ones on similar type shows seen a very short time before this show and they aren't done as well. The Wendigo which is based on an Indian Spirit Legend is a great mythological cannibal. I would have liked to see a clearer shot of the creature as that is one of the truly horrible things about them. Otherwise it just wasn't that scary. Also, what was it doing in the Toronto sewer system? Not a place you would usually find very solitary creatures that like secluded places.

The fact it had been feeding on the homeless was interesting and it definitely would not like fire. I have not heard of the silver bullet theory but it made for a nice story line to bring things full circle.

I really hadn't been paying attention to Vicki's bookkeeping efforts up to this point but if she is making the kind of coin she is asking for you have to wonder where she is spending it or her rent must be truly outrageous. She must have cleared $3000 in that last case alone. $500 a day plus expenses... Oh well, it makes for a good story thread.

I am not sure Vicki or any woman I have met would forgive Mike for what he did any time in the coming years. He really betrayed her trust even if he thought he was doing it for a good reason. He never really did investigate this character who claimed to work for the Vatican. Julian Sands was great in this role if not a little over the top. Also, wouldn't he have to be a lot older than he appears to know everything he does about Henry. It almost seems personal in nature. One thing we do have to take into account for Mike is his obvious jealous rage based on the last episodes final attack by the siren of Henry.

I hope they can save Henry's friend the artist before she parishes. We'll see how this all goes in the second part of this episode. Thanks for reading...
  • Nice episode kind of scary, breaks my heart at the end

I cannot believe Mike. before this episode i hated him now i really really hate him.

it was a good storyline. the weird animal thing and the homeless.

i again loved how worried vicki was about henry and i cant believe mike double crossed him.

i know also think that mike realises how much vicki really does care about henry and that he will lay off a bit but i dont think that will happen.

all in all it was a great episode and it was very heart breaking at the end to see henry in so much physical pain and vicki is so much emotional pain. great acting!

i'm glad they showed more of kate in this episode. they should just make her mike's partner & get rid of the fat cop (even though he is funny) dave? i didn't think mendoza was going 2 pull a gun on mike & vicki. i think it was kind of unnecessary, but she can b tough. she seemed to not react enough when kevin was talking nonchalantly about killing women all the time. she used to be a cop & should not take it so lightly. i at least expected her to tell him that he needs to stop killing women. the sun medallion was an interesting addition to the show. & luckily mike asked coreen about the bullets because i was thinking the same thing he was.
  • Another great episode, complete with action, mystery, and romance.

Heart of Fire is the latest episode in Blood Ties. The episode was cleverly written, with twists and turns leaving you on the edge of your seat the whole way. The ending was a cliffhanger, where Henry is dragged off by an evil vampire hunter with a vendetta. The mystery of the situation is intriguing. Vicki's on and off lover Mike played an essential part in the capturing of Henry. We'll see if he can redeem himself in both Henry and Vicki's eyes in the upcoming episodes. Personally, I hope not. But that's just me. This episode was fantastic, and I highly recommend watching it.
  • The episodes are getting down to business now.

This episode begins with the homeless, in their living area of either the outskirts of the city or an undeveloped area within the city. One homeless lady who separates herself from the rest of the less fortunate is trying to build a fire when a windigo murders her.

The homeless gathered together $98.56 to have Vicki tries to solve the case as to what or who was murdering their friends.

Around the same time Mike was at another case investigating a murder where a hooker was bitten in the neck and drained of her blood. The young woman had 2 opposite bites on her neck leaving me to wonder if vampires sometimes leave different marking that could identify their kill.

Mike immediately believes Henry could have done the murder. Mike then begins doing research and questioning Vicky about Henry. A man named Mendoza comes to Mike claiming he’s from the church and he’s there to take care of Henry. He also warns Mike that Vicky would be Henry’s next victim since Henry has already drank blood from Vicky. Thus manipulating Mike into a plot to capture Henry.

Meanwhile Vicki and Henry have found out information about the windigo by meeting Peter, a man who watched his father murdered by it when he was just a boy. A run in with the windigo leaves Peter dead and Henry in trouble needing blood.

Vicky and Coreen search for answers of how to kill the windigo, and a plan is made for Vicki to go in with a fire gun because the windigo cannot survive around fire or heat.

Both Vicki and Henry attempt another try but the fire gun falls into the water and everything goes wrong. Mike appears on the scene and shoots and kills the windigo with silver bullets that Coreen had just given him while telling him where Vicky and Henry were. But afterwards, Mike, according to Mendoza’s plan places a hand held sun shaped device on Henry’s chest and it immediately takes away all of Henry’s strength and power leaving him defenseless. Mendoza steps in for the capture.

Mendoza had previously captured Delphine with this same device, a vampiress who Henry had turned over 40 years ago by her request. That was how Mendoza was able to get information on Henry. Mike did not see Mendoza’s true colors until it was to late and he truly thought he was saving Vicki from Henry. Mike really does have feelings for her and it looks like Henry does too. But you know Henry is feeling the betrayal right about now.

Since Buffy and Angel ended I've been waiting for a show like this, I hope it'll be on for a long time. This episode is about the windigo creature, but the real deal here is Henry and his past. We finally know a vampire he turned and a man from his past that wants to kill him or worst. We finally discover that Henry, like a vampire, must kill sometimes. The feeling between Vicky and Henry is growing, so I'm excited to seee what comes next. Very good episode, the best so far. Next one is going to be pretty interesting, Henry must be with Vicky. It's one of my favorite shows this season.
  • This episode was good as I thought it would be.

The opening was good. It started out with the murder of a homeless woman. It turns out that the creature is a wendigo. Along with the homeless being murdered in this episode there is also another murder. A prostitute is found with bite marks. This case allows it to be revealed that Henry has killed people in the past and that sometimes he cannot control what he is. While investigating the murder, Mike meets Mendoza who is working for the church. He knows what Henry is and also believes that he is responsible for the murder. He tells Mike that he has a way of stopping Henry. At first he is reluctant to consider doing that until he finds out that Vicki gave Henry some of her blood. According to Mendoza, Henry eventually kills all his lovers. Mike ends up taking an object that looks like a sun from Mendoza which will take away all of Henry's powers. At the end of the episode Mike uses that on Henry and Mendoza takes Henry. From this episode I am starting to see that Mike really still cares a great deal for Vicki. The fact that he is willing to do something that he is uncomfortable with to protect her shows that. Another thing that the audience finds out is that Henry will only turn someone into a vampire if it is their wish to become one. Delphine, a woman that Henry turned, is shown in this episode. You actually get a sense from this episode that Henry has a pretty dark past. Hopefully if this show is renewed they will start to delve into that. It is also revealed that if Henry loses too much blood, he cannot heal. I cannot wait until next week for the conclusion of this storyline. It looks good.
