  • We finally get to see some more chiropteran action, in cold, cold Siberia.

Saya and friends board the Trans-Siberian Express on their search. There they meet a Russian Red Shield member named Liza. It was hilarious to see Kai freak out over a simple European greeting. ;)

It was also hilarious to see that there is still some animosity between Kai and Haji. One-sided animosity, maybe, but that doesn't make it any less amusing. Kai should have expected complaining about Haji rooming with Saya would end in he himself becoming the cellist's roomie. And then he had to try and sleep through the music. It was a good moment. And then, finally, the moment I was waiting for, the fight with chiropterans! I like it when Saya actually decides to fight, because when she does it's never disappointing.

Typical of almost everything I've seen involving trains, someone, Saya, Kai, Haji and Riku in this case, end up falling off the train. So does Liza, who apparently isn't Liza anymore...moreless

    • Soviet-Afghan War

Liza explains that Chiropterans slaughtered her regiment in Afghanistan in 1989.

The Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan in 1979 to support the People's Democratic Party of Aghanistan, a Marxist rebel group. The conflict lasted until 1988, when the United Nations intervened, but troop withdrawal lasted until 1990. Just one of many third-world conflicts vulnerable to Chiropteran infiltration.

    • Russian Revolution

David and Lewis mention that there have been no official sightings of Chiropterans in Russia since the revolution in 1918.

The Russian Revolution (1917-1922) was a series of civil wars between the Communist Bolsheviks and the remaining agents of the czarist regime to take control of the country. Such a civil conflict as this qualifies as one of the areas vulnerable to Chiropteran infestation that David described in earlier episodes.
