Saya and the others arrive at the Metropolitan Opera House ahead of Diva. While waiting Kai questions Hagi about Saya's ability to fight. With Diva still not having arrived yet, Joel questions whether or not she will come. Saya is quick to say Diva will as she can hear Diva's singing. Upon Diva's arrival, Saya and Hagi immediately go to fight her, but are they ready for what Amshel has planned?moreless

"Superb"

This ep was pretty good. I had remembered it more as a set-up for the final confrontation. But watching it in English, I seem to have picked a bit more up. This ep was very good on its own merits. I'd give it a 9 on the obligatory rating system. It was very busy...lots and lots of things going on. Even Keori made an appearence. Some history on the Met and the story based on the concept of Faust. Faust is a methaphore for hubris. An interesting little converstation between Nathan and Amshel - Nathan all but comes out and discloses that he was Diva and Saya's mother's chevalier. Kai and Hagi have an interesting conversation as well; Hagi ends the converstation with 'You know nothing about me". He sounded defiant, almost hostile to Kai. David, Kai, and even the uberscruffy Okamura look pretty sharp in their tuxedos. Diva makes a backstage enterance; Saya confronts her, but is unable to prevent Diva from taking the stage. Amshel interceades and reveals his hostility for Saya. Whhhaaaannn....you let Diva out, I wanted her all to myself. I didn't realize that Amshel was actually such a git. Diva takes stage, her singing awakens chiropterans around the world. Van Argeno nearly wets himself when the one Department of Defense admin turns into a chiropteran and eats the other admin. Pretty amusing, actually. Argeno starts saying 'Please forgive me...I'm sorry' over and over again. Who is he talking to? God? Not enterly sure that god is listening to Argeno at that point. My favorit part of the ep was Nathan just sitting in the middle of all the chiropteran carnage and simply slapping one away like he is slightly annoyed; he says 'This choriography is suprizingly stimulating'. As this series draws to a close, Nathan has become one of my favorit characters. The little conversation Amshel has with Saya at the end is rather amusing; Amshel passes the responsibility off.

The Red Shield bombing plan didn't work, so they have to knock-out the satalite feed. This leads to the second most amusing line of the ep: Kai saying "Wow...this kinda sucks" as they are surrounded by chiropterans. I am on seat's edge for next week's episode.moreless

- The opening opera is based on 16th century literary figure: Faust. Faust has been a character concept of classical literature, made most famous by von Goethe and Marlowe in the 18th century. Faustian characters from European literature include Frankenstein and Dr. Jekyll. Faust is usually an alchemist or scientist whose own ambition becomes the root of his down doom. In Blood+ Amshel is the prime Faustian character; Joel the first is another example in Blood+. The subtext is: Blind ambition is hubris.
