With the Blue now converging on their position, the only chance of staying alive is to draw the Blue into a fight using human survivors as bait. - I found the scene where the little girl dies to be extremely powerful. The way the animators made it seem like everything was OK--and then in an instant, she is gone, flattened. It quickly proved to Yuji that life is going to be completely different in this new world he has awaken in. Edit
