The gruelling investigation of the attacks on the Mt. Thomas police continues, as Tom heads to Melbourne to investigate the man who sold the parts for the bomb. He links it to chemical dealer 'Doc' Parkinson, and is determined to prove that he provided the Baxters with supplies for both the bomb and the speed. Although Nick seems to be against this idea, he does join PJ and Amy - who everyone at the station is very impressed with - on another search of the Baxter property, during which time he plants listening devices in their home - which ultimately lead them to discover the truth. On a doorknock, Jonesy and Susie rescue an attractive woman named Donna from a rubbish skip she has been locked in, and Jonesy falls for her. That night at the pub, her former de facto lover hits him, and then claims that Donna took all his possessions, and is a con artist. Ben has been fawning over Susie a little too much, buying her expensive gifts, and she ultimately gives them back and leaves him unsure as to the nature of their relationship. Joss and Kelly join PJ and Nick on a stakeout of the Baxters, which ultimately leads to the discovery of the speed and their subsequent arrest. When Amy links them to the car that smashed through Susan Croydon's wall, it seems certain that the Baxters are convicted. While they wait, Father Hegarty comes to see Tom. Tom is not impressed with Hegarty's behaviour regarding a young boy who stole from the church, but who had his crime covered up by the priest. Hegarty in return tells Tom that he needs to forgive rather than continue being so vindictive. PJ goes to see Tom and asks directly if he killed Troy Baxter but Tom denies it. The interrogation of Barry Baxter begins and he refuses to crack, claiming that Troy planned it all. But Matt - who is clearly needing speed to fuel his addiction - is ultimately talked into confessing for them both, and the two are arrested for speed trafficking, and the bombing of the station. That night, the group celebrate at the Imperial. Ben doesn't show up, but Tom does - however his mood is uncertain. As Nick farewells PJ, he asks PJ to keep an eye on Tom, and make sure that any more 'accidental deaths' are investigated. After Nick leaves, Mark gets a call: 'Doc' Parkinson was killed in a fire that destroyed his lab. PJ believes Tom was involved, but decides to protect him instead of telling Nick. Susie, deciding that it is time to reconcile with Jonesy, heads up to his room only to discover him in bed with Donna Maitland. She runs off, but as she leaves he sees her too...moreless
  • Poor Ben. Christ, Kelly and Joss are annoying.

The hunt to prove the Baxter's guilt continues. Tom finds a chemical supplier called Doc Parkinson, and is determined to prove he supplied the chemicals for the bomb. Parrkinson eventually admits to it, and is given police protection, but his warehouse, with him in it, mysteriously goes up in flames before he can be taken into protection.

The evidence he gives is enough to get Matt Baxter - clearly addicted to speed - to fess up. Barry is furious, but there's not much he can do.

The story arc was wrapped up nicely, with the Heelers finally getting the evidence they need to nail the Baxters. But overall, I found this episode very, very average and the reason I stopped watching the show on first-run.

A side-trip sees Kelly and Joss stumbled across a joey with a severe stomach wound - the most humane thing to do, Tom says, is to shoot it. Kelly becomes emotional and hysterial, and makes Joss to it. This little scenario illustrated what I don't like about the two characters - Kelly is vapid and overly-emotional, and Joss is too self-absorbed and inconsiderate to be sensitive to Kelly's distress and shoot to joey rather then try and palm it back onto her.

Meanwhile, Ben has been showering Susie with gifts, suffocating her with love until she's forced to call it off. Poor Ben, but he kinda had it coming - he ALWAYS gets too deep too fast - and it retrospect, it's obvious these are Paul Bishop's last days on the show.

After Susie breaks it off with Ben, she goes to see Jonsey, who is getting very intimate with another woman. I'm tired of this storyline. Either get together or accept that it's not going to happen and get over it.

This episode was very so-so. I can't get into the new characters and this ongoing darkness and betrayal they've woven into the storylines leaves me cold.moreless
