After a few watchable but lull episodes, 'Dead Ringer' continues the return to top form for the series.

It is nice to see Nick in charge of the Station, and William McInnes has some great scenes to get his teeth into.
The episode marks return of the homicide duo, who had investigated Nick over a suspicious death in the first season episode 'The First Stone'. The pair are played perfectly arrogant and dislikeable - especially Detective Ryan, played by Janet Andrewartha who many fans such as myself will recognise from playing Reb Keen for several years in 'Prisoner: Cell Block H'.

The inclusion of the visiting sheep shearers picked up near the start of the story is a bit noticeable the way they are included, it is pretty obvious that they will fit into the main case somehow; but it wasn't severe enough to mar the story in any real way.

I really like how it plays out with Nick and Adam are determined that something is not quite right with the homicide team's findings and stick at the case. The eventual "deduction" scene by Nick is almost 'Columbo'-like, but really good fun. However, I did find that this was one story that you really had to keep up with who was who, and what was what, so as to completely follow the explanations at the end.

All-in-all, I really liked this episode, in fact more than I expected to at first. This is another one that I give a strong 9.5 rating to.moreless
