EDIT
End of Innocence
AIRED:
After an old lady is mugged, tension builds in Mt. Thomas. Thanks to Clancy, an eye-witness of the event, suspicion rests on a new family in town: the Baxters. The adult children, Matt, Troy and Tarni are brought in but nothing can be proven. Their father Barry, a softly controlling man, comes to bail them out and shortly afterward, Clancy is bashed.

The cops link it back to the Baxters and end up arresting Troy when a brick is thrown through Tom's window. However, at the same time, an old war veteran named 'Rocket' Turnbull who served with Tom is in town, and has publicly threatened Tom.

Meanwhile, Ben is attempting to play relationship advisor with Jo and PJ, until she confesses to him that the reason they split is because of Maggie. PJ thinks they can still work together, but Jo has asked for a transfer.

A new day dawns in Mt. Thomas. Grace and Jo are distraught when Cal Millic, a man who they were helping in a custody battle, loses, and refuses to give his daughter back. Jo is forced to go and help take her away and the man renounces her, threatening her for betraying him.

Later, all of the cops go out to arrest the Baxter family, who they are now sure are the culprits. Tom and Jo are left behind, Tom is increasingly worried because Grace is nowhere to be found - and the last place she was going was to the Baxter house, to try and resolve the ongoing dispute personally.

Clancy arrives at the station with a bag which someone told him to give Tom. Tom has left his keys in the car, however, so he sends Clancy in to Jo. As he walks outside, Tom realises what is going on and turns back: but he is too late. The bomb inside the bag explodes, the building is destroyed, and flames engulf Tom Croydon...moreless

  • When a new family moves into town, they cause trouble for the Heelers

I just watched this on the Classic Heelers. Shock. Absolute shock when the station blew up.I just sat staring at the TV as the old station went up in flames...Jo, and our beloved Clancy died. Total and utter shock...the next episode was so emotional. But this one...Jo just poured her heart out to Ben...and then she died...One more death to the Heelers crew. Wayne, Maggie, Jo, and probably a few more in between. At time of writing, its been 10 years since Wayne, 6 since Maggie and 2 since Jo...three of my favourite characters...true to form, Blue Heelers came through on the shock factor. This is definitely a must-see episode -- the climatic revelation of the PJ/Joanna saga.moreless
  • The end of Jo, and Classic Heelers.

    9.0
The main reason I stopped watching Blue Heelers after the station blew up was that it didn't feel like the same show; watching teh reruns during the day has made me miss Classic Heelers even more. If seven even starts screening the post-explosion episodes again (they've probably taken it off the air for the school holidays) I'm interested in comparing them properly.

A woman is mugged, with the proceeds of the church fate stolen - about $3K. Suspicion falls on the Baxters, a needy family with criminal histories who are reluctnat to help the police. Tensions mount increasingly as the Baxters and the Heelers become more ersentful of one another.

Someone throws a brick through the rectory window, interrupted Tom and Grace's dinner. It may be the Baxter's, it may be a vietnam vet Tom fought with - and didn't think too much of.

Jo is miserable, having moved out of the house she shated with PJ and Ben. Ben attempts to orchestrate a reconciliation between Jo and PJ, to no avail. Finally, Jo opens up to Ben, admitting she's hurting over their breakup but she's too proud to compete with a dead woman. I was glad Jo finally confided with Ben, I thought of everyone there, Ben was the only one (other then PJ and Tom) who had known Maggie, and known how mad PJ was about her, and obsessed over her death; he of all people who know what Jo was competing against if PJ had returned to his feelings. Some really nice chemistry between them, their hug was touching.

Tensions mount between the Baxters and the Heelers and Tom and his ex-comrade, culminating in someone leaving a package for Tom. Clancy brings it in, and Tom leaves Jo to help open in. As Tom leaves the stationhouse, he realises what's in the package. His last orders to Jo are not to open the package, before the station blows up and the closing credits come up.

As I said, the last of Classic Heelers. I wonder if they should have ended it here, or at least after they'd written out Ben and PJ?

I really enjoyed this episode. Good storylines between Tom and Grace, Tom and Jo, Jo and PJ, Ben and Jo and PJ. (Glad there wasn't so much of an emphasis on Susie and Jonsey; as good as a comraderie as I think they have, seeing them fron centre episode after episode was getting a bit tiring.) My one gripe is that I felt the tensions between the Baxters and the Heelers rose too quickly; I would have liked to have seen that work out over a few episodes. But otherwise, a terrific ep. 9/10.moreless
