Maggie's gun goes missing, and there could be dire consequences if it is not found quickly.
  • Inspector Faulkner collars Tom into letting his brattish nephew do work experience at the Station, but a more serious situation emerges when Maggie is duped by unruly teenage skinny dippers, who make off with her gun. Not perfect, but a fair episode...moreless

'Gun Law' is a pretty good episode in my opinion.

The main story, of Maggie's missing gun belt, is handled well (I love the initial scene of her trying to act all firm with the tearaway teenage skinny dippers, then diving in and getting all soaked sorry, my mind was wandering!), and the unfolding investigation of where the missing belt and cuffs have gone is conducted reasonably although not enough to make it anything outstandingly special. And although handled well, I did feel that the matter of a stolen gun in the hand of teenage tearaways, could have had more done with it.

Nearly every episode of 'Blue Heelers' from this period is well cast but, with respect to the young actor who played him, I found Inspector Faulkner's brattish nephew, who Tom reluctantly takes on as work experience, to be as miscast as much as he was poorly written. Seen with atypically 1990s long hair, baggy t-shirt and "I don't care" attitude, the character felt like a leftover some dodgy sit-com, and for me is the only thing that really detracts from the episode.

It is this inclusion of "the brat" that mostly stops me from liking this episode even more. But the main story is reasonable enough for me to give this one a 9 out of 10 rating.moreless
