The third victim of the Mt. Thomas serial killer is a gay teacher named Leon Barclay. PJ and Amy discover a link between him and the second victim - Merinda May: a therapy group for sexual abuse victims, run by Dr. Bill Lapscott a psychologist. What makes them worried about this link is that the first victim did not attend, so Amy infiltrates the group to see if this could be how the victims were chosen. As the group share stories of their own sexual abuses, Amy gives one also. While she later insists she was making it up, Bill recognises the signs and knows that she wasn't. He invites her out, and begins getting to know her. Garth, however, begins to spect that Bill himself is the killer - a theory that seems cemented when they learn that Bill lived in the same street as Janelle Watts, the first victim. Amy doesn't believe this theory, so she desperately tries to prove otherwise and ends up suspecting Jeff - Janelle's father - as being the killer. Meanwhile, Bill asks Amy out and they go for a drink at the Imperial, which is empty due to the serial killer scare. Everyone else is on watch duty which eventually concludes when they realise that it may be the first night without a killing. Bill and Amy talk, during which time they try and profile the killer, and he tries to get her to open up about her abuse.

Day Five. Garth determinedly researches Bill's background and finds he is a former priest, which may fit with the crucifix at every crime scene. Also, he states, Bill has no alibi for any night - except the previous one, when no murder occurred.

Meanwhile, Joss and Kelly investigate an alleged robbery from a store, and Kelly tricks Joss into crushing the dreams of a young girl who wants to be a model.

Night Five. Garth, Jonesy and Alex take surveillance of Bill. Amy refuses to believe he is the killer, so takes PJ and Susie to watch Jeff. Everyone gets a scared radio call from Garth who has found the fourth victim - Ngaire Douglas, a member of the therapy group. She isn't quite dead when he finds her but she dies in his arms. Amy is worried, however, when she learns that - just minutes before the killing - Jonesy and Alex lost sight of Bill...moreless

      • Bill: When you told your story today, the women in the group recognised it as being true. Amy: Except it wasn't. Bill: If you don't wanna go there, it's fine. Amy: There's nowhere to go, I made it up. Bill: Oh well, you had me going.

      • Garth: It's bad enough that you date a possible suspect... Amy: What? Garth: ...but giving him details of the case? Amy: I didn't tell him anything. Garth: Then how'd you come to have this cosy little chat about the killer? Amy: Look, I was talking to Bill about his therapy group. At no point did I give him any information about any of the cases. Garth: Oh come on... Amy: Where do you get off even asking me this stuff, you know, I have dinner with someone and all of a sudden you think I'm going to spill my guts about the case!

      • Garth: Have you even checked where he was on the nights of the murders? Amy: Yes, I have, he's not alibied. Garth: Exactly! Amy: Look, what is this about? You're acting like you're jealous. Garth: I'm not jealous. PJ: (enters the room) Amy. Got a job, armed rob. Amy: Thank god.

      • Amy: That dinner we were supposed to have, I can't do that. Bill: You don't trust me? Amy: No it's... Bill: Then what is it? Amy: Because psychologists can't date their patients can they? Bill: Your Uncle? Amy: Yeah, um, I've been distracted all day and it's probaly just a result of sitting in on that group. Bill: If i'd had known I'd never of let you do that. Amy: It's not your fault. Bill: It's not yours either, you do understand that don't you? Amy: Yeah...theoretically. So, I was thinking a few one on one sessions wouldn't go a stray. Bill: How's Monday? Amy: Yep. Bill: Oh and Amy...I'm really sorry about that dinner. But, good on you.

      • Vince Colosimo begins his guest arc, the next high-profile actor after Gary Sweet to appear on the show in the attempt to keep season 12's ratings as bouyant as those of the season before.

      • During this episode's first airing, Channel Seven suffered a technical malfunction which led to 30 minutes of dead air during the second half of what was supposed to be this episode. Due to this, they re-aired this episode the following week at 8:30, followed by the next episode, in a move welcomed by viewers and highly advertised with commercials - featuring John Wood explaining the breakdown - airing regularly. Somewhat strangely, around a million viewers watched the second half-hour of the original airing, despite it being blank screen. (Some of the regional areas did cut to other programming during this time).
