Unusually, I found 'Motherlove' to be a slightly corny in places, particularly regarding some of the dialogue, compared to most of 'Blue Heelers's sharp episodes during this period. But it didn't matter too much, as it is still a great episode anyway.
This is a good Maggie-centric story, and Lisa McCune gives a great performance as always.
The plot, of who is retaliating against Maggie and the Mount Thomas Police, keeps you wondering throughout is it the mother, the biker gang, or the father angry over the treatment of the matter? Although in the back of my mind I guessed all along that it would be the mother, the plot develops very well and kept me constantly guessing.
This story also sticks in my memory as being the first 'Blue Heelers' episode that I ever really saw. Although I think I may have caught the very odd glimpse of it previously without really cottoning on to it, I remember watching the last third or so of this episode, when my local ITV region used to run the series on Monday afternoons in the 1990s.
All-in-all... as I say, a few corny lines here and there, but I can forgive that, and coming after a couple of installments that I wasn't too sure about I really like 'Motherlove'. I give this one 9.5 out of 10.moreless
