    This review contains spoilers.

After the rather weak 'Trust Me', I found 'Parenting' to be another disappointing episode. It is superior to the awkward-feeling 'Trust Me' and has a better plot, but I just found it awkward to warm to, and didn't feel it was anywhere as near as good as it could or should have been.

The plot of the neglected teenage son sabotaging his father's business and property could have been very engaging, but it just felt to be a bit half-heartedly tackled, and maybe the writing didn't feel up to the usual par.

The secondary plot, regarding Tom's daughter Susan returning home to Mount Thomas to tell him that she is thinking of dropping out of her course to become a teacher, is a bit fairer, but needed a stronger a-plot to carry it. I do like the scene of them fishing by the creek though I wish I lived somewhere like that, not grey, concrete old South East England.

I really came away from this episode feeling that there was potential for a really good story in here somewhere; in fairness, it does pick up a bit towards the end, and I like the final scene, but it was too little, too late to save the story. Sadly I only give this one a (still passable) 7 out of 10.moreless
