Another top-notch episode. The more I watch 'Blue Heelers' through on DVD, the more I become cross that, here in the U.K., it was never given a very prominent (or stable) time-slot, only appearing on various ITV regions, usually on Mondays in the middle of the afternoon, and often disappearing (and no region showed any of the later episodes). With some of the tripe, both home-grown and imported, that UK television shows, then and now, something with the quality of 'Blue Heelers' really deserved a better slot.

Rant over (!)... I really enjoyed 'Secrets'. So much happening, and an interesting main plot.

The main plot, of the schoolgirl involved in a number of brawls, who turns out to be continually harassed after having an abortion, is well played out, and actually doesn't come across as obvious or predictable as it might sound on paper.
The final payoff, with the mother of the main girl harassing her (to win friends for herself) giving her the "well I'll have you know that *I* had an abortion once too" speech is slightly convenient, but serves to wrap up the story well.

But that's only the half of it, as there is so much else happening in this instalment. Tom stands for promotion (against PJ's old rival Monica Draper), which leaves the other officers wondering if Nick will take his position as Sergeant of the station. Wayne receives news that puts him in a bad news and lashes out at Adam; it's his divorce papers from Roz, which I guessed pretty early on, but again plays out well. He deserved a slap for trying it on with Maggie as a result, though!
But the most amusing thread of the episode is Tom fending off the unwanted advances of a local fellow Rotarian, who is using the position to get closer to him that he'd like. In the end, he asks Chris to be his date to the upcoming function naturally raising the jealousy of Adam, who still holds a torch for Chris even through she insists their brief fling is over.

...Wow; a LOT happening. Almost soap opera-esque in a way. Although ordinarily in TV shows this is the sort of thing that does not really appeal to me personally, with 'Blue Heelers' I don't mind it, as the characters are just so interesting and well acted.

In all, I really REALLY enjoyed this episode. A number of interesting plot threads, and as with all good BH stories the right blend between drama and almost light comedy at suitable points. I give 'Secrets' a solid 10/10.moreless
