'Stop for a Bite' is nothing outstanding in terms of 'Blue Heelers' episodes, but is a fun, likeable story in itself. Bar the outcome that the internal efficiency audit has, the episode doesn't really have any impact on the series, but is one of those nice "storm in a teacup" sort of stories that she show does occasionally.

There is a nice selection of guest characters, each with a possible motive for contaminating the pies, and it is fun trying to work out who the real culprit is.

I like the inclusion of "red herring" property developer Celia she always seemed to be around whenever anything happened or any important information was given; it seemed that it was so obvious it was her, so it was a pleasant surprise when it turned out not to be.

One thing I did pick up on, was the brief plot about Clancy, the boy with whatever disabilities; he was introduced and taken back to the station, but after that the story just sort of faded way; Dunno what that was all about, unless they'll pick up on it in a following episode.

Towards the end, the story verges on dragging on, but thankfully they wrap it up before it becomes a problem. However, I did feel that the final revelation that the culprit was one of the brothers who wanted the bakery to sell out so he could have more time to be with his lover came a bit out of the blue, and maybe the seeds for this revelation could have been sown a bit earlier in the story.

The b-plot, of the hard-nosed efficiency auditor visiting the Station - Nick is convinced it will be Traffic, but the casualty turns out to be Rose. Although never fully seeming "one of the gang" maybe because Dale Stevens never credited with the main cast after her rather brazen attitude on her first appearance (in 'Damage Control', the final episode of the first season), I had slowly come to warm to Rose, so it's a shame that this is her last appearance in the series.

All-in-all, not a 'Blue Heelers' great, but a nice, enjoyable episode in itself. I give this one 8.5 out of 10.moreless
