    This review contains spoilers.

'Swings & Roundabouts' is a reasonable episode, but other than a few finer points, does feel to be an average, slightly "filler" outing for the series.

In cop shows such as these, the culprit is often introduced in the first few minutes, often in a "Have you met my friend..." capacity, and sure enough this is the case in this episode, with the slightly Rick Moranis-like Dr. Andrew McKenzie. Just the way he was introduced, I knew from the off he was involved with the missing drugs.
This was supported even further by the unusual amount of screen-time given to Maggie and her friend Gina, and recent fianc Andrew. Although reading up (and from faint memory) I know that Gina becomes a recurring character, even so, the way Gina and Andrew were made so prominent in the story, I found it rather obvious that Andrew would be implicated; and indeed he is.

There are also several offshoot plots, most notable being the local hippie pothead, who takes a shine to Tom's dog. I found him to be an interesting character, but found these meshing of plots a little unfocused and uneven.

Late on in the episode, aforementioned pothead leads Wayne to a hidden patch of marijuana, being harvested by two city dudes who are checking on it every few weeks. I felt thing element was rather tacked on, which was a shame as I found it had a lot more potential, and could have rounded the episode out much more; but this element of the story was pretty much over and done with in just a few minutes.

The relationship between Chris and Adam is also continuing, and at the end of the episode, PJ lets on to Chris that he knows about it in a nice way. There are some okay plot ideas in this episode, but I found the several concurrent drug-related plots too unfocused, and the main one, regarding the missing drugs from the hospital, to be a little bland at times.
As I seem to say with many of the lesser 'Blue Heelers' episodes, things are saved from falling flat by some great character moments and some great performances by the main cast; so even bearing in mind my above gripes about obvious and not overly interesting plot, I still feel able to give this one a reasonable 8 out of 10.moreless
