This episode would easily be my pick for best episode of the series. The writing, direction and performances were absolutely spot-on. I can't believe they fit it all in an hour. Every character was heard, every emotion felt.
Beginning with a ringing telephone, the audience learns that Constable Greg Mason was killed in the line of duty. The timeline yo-yos to reveal each member of the Blue Heelers team hearing the news and follows each of them for a period as they play their part in the devastating, all-too-close-to-home case.
Just prior to this episode, and clearly quite deliberately, two new characters had been introduced to play a pivotal role in this storyline, Greg Mason and Robyn Taylor. The writers and actors did such a wonderful job with these characters that it's a shame they were written as 'sacrificial lambs to the story-arc' as they were both very likable and I would have enjoyed having them around Mount Thomas for a little while longer.
In summary, a brilliantly executed story of loss, fear and guilt - in other words pure grief.moreless
